Lance flagging a possible livestrong marathon/tri series...

Again, he's stuck out in a third-tier, low-budget events that are everywhere and non-special. The guy is radioactive inside IOC sanctioned sport. While there are no end of event organizers, few work at big-money level and most of those do WADA controlled events.

I would think, since he hasn't changed one bit, he would try to set up an event structure where the sponsor funding tiers would be ridiculous and no big organizer to back it it will turn into a huge, yellow, financial mess after the first event.

I guess Weisel is working hard now at trying to set something up with his USAC friends.

Wants to keep his boy training and competing to bring in the bucks. I imagine Weisel takes a nice % on everything wonderboy does and he doesn't want to let that get away without milking it to death.

. . . . he had even a Dutch girlfriend. In the Netherlands we have the opinion that you should not play back to the future with taking away titles of the past from Lance. . . . . This shows that we never punish sporters on this for life and for that reason we feel sorry for Lance.

I totally agree that Lance cannot compete on professional cycle courses anymore and I respect the rules of the WADA on that. I do not respect the opinion that he can never participate in recreational running events like ours. And we cannot be bounded by WADA rules indeed. Everyone should have the right to participate in a local sports event. We do not check on drugs so I see no reason why he should not be welcome in our event. I do not believe that this will cause any damage. In The Netherlands this is not such a big deal. We believe that Lance will generate a positive vibe around our event.

Please do not speak on behalf of all Dutch. Lance has built a business empire based on a massive fraud. And wants to continue this into other sports/events. With Mart one of his great supporters from way back. . . . Suggest to think beyond your own Hoorn event about the bigger picture? You have kids who are good at sports and/or are looking at societal role models? You have cancer in your family? If so you need to know most of the Lance generated cancer funding makes no impact on cancer treatment or outcome. It goes towards Lance and Livestrong branding and cancer awareness. I for one don't need more cancer awareness. Put the funds towards mental health awareness, schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, etc. everyone knows what cancer is/does. It's a devious scheme to build the Lance and Livestrong brand to give Lance more societal power, perhaps for future business endeavours or a political career. That's all. Based on a massive fraud. Suggest to invite some real role models to Hoorn...

I fully agree with Tinman here and fear the Waaijer effect of Lance Armstrong on sports (cycling, MTB, triathlon) needs to be broken. Let the wind pass through and clear out all this falsehood and deceit.

I don't believe all the Dutch or even all the Dutch media support this. But I have been astounded by the amount of complicity in this affair by some leading Dutch media and riders. Most especially the role of De Telegraaf/Telesport, which seems to have played a role in the Armstrong camp with its so-called leaked names of witnesses, right through to the major media coverage of the USADA affair. It was unprofessional and abhorrent.

Frankly, I would hope that if Lance does show up at the Hoorn Marathon, that he is the sole runner. And be careful with how you have portrayed the Hoorn affair: Lance was invited by the organizers. This is inviting a known doper, international drug trafficker, person who drugs younger riders, conspirator, liar, cheat. WADA rules aside, what ever possessed the organizers of the Hoorn Marathon to invite Lance? This is just pure greed at the cost of honest sport.

I think until Lance comes clean, admits what he has done, and actually asks for forgiveness, your sympathy is misplaced. I do not see how you can possibly sympathize with someone who insists on such an enormous wrongdoing. I do agree that not all dopers need to be band from all sports for life. But those who have cheated and continue to lie and deny, deserve to be kept off the local basketball court, by the police if need be.

I cannot agree more with what Tinman wrote. And he said it better. Just on cancer. Please don't let LiveStrong influence our view on the importance of cancer awareness, cancer research, cancer therapy, and care for cancer patients and their families. I know there is a ton of awareness out there. LiveStrong, however, IMHO has nothing positive to do with the cancer world. For me this remains Lance's greatest crime.

And apologies to Mongol. I don't think it was badly intended. I just don't think it is thought out.

A great interview with David Walsh and he goes to the point of why journalists (who he points out appeared to recognise Lance was doping in 1999) decide to ignore it. He then goes on to say that there was no place for himself in the press car in 2004....

I have been really frustrated by the depth of coverage of Australian cycling journalists. Can't understand it really, as a cycling journalist this is the story of the century, surely?

In the last few days Rupert Guinness (who was apparently in that car with David Walsh for years before Lance put an end to it) has done an article in the Sydney Morning Herald saying he won't make up his mind (FFS) until he sees the USADA evidence.

Then there is Anthony Tan saying that he thinks that they doped because they weren't paid enough (what?) (SBS Cycling Central opinion)

Finally a guy called Les Clarke is saying today (SBS Cycling Central website) that Hamiltons book indicates that there has been a generational change!

Well with all the white washing going on in the Australian cycling press thats a pretty good indication that thats a load of ********.

Sorry all for the rant - but the lack of any focused investigative journalism here really makes you realise how scared these guys are to speak out. Of what? Of whom?

Why isn't Rupert Guinness for example, interviewing Travis Tygart, Daniel Coyle, Tyler Hamilton, Betsy Andreu, He is the cycling journalist for the Sydney Morning Herald! So depressing (end rant)

In France we have some excellent journalism - of course Damien Ressiot is one example of this. We also have lots of trash journalists like Thierry Adam who is the TDF commentator on France Télévisions and who has his nose firmly planted up Armstrong's you know what. There is an interview from a few years ago (I don't have the link anymore) where he says he himself has seen proof of Armstrong's doping but this doesn't stop him from singing his praises at every possiblity. And don't get me started on Jean Réné Godard, the way he fawns over Armstrong is revolting.

Chewbacca / TFF should be very proud!

The "Cancer [HE WHOSE NAME WE MAY NOT SPEAK HERE]" meme he started has been adopted by Team Lance.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Hilarious and delicious irony that the photo they have is of Lance coming 3rd at the Tour, pwninated by Alberto Contador. The most pious pic they could find was the one where Lance is second loser.

30 minute interview with Tyler Hamilton on BBC World Service right now

http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/

The BBC interviewer asks Tyler why Lance should be suspected of doping since "he's passed hundreds of doping tests throughout his career". Tyler's response was clever - and should be used more often to counter perhaps the most-used Armstrong propaganda line:

"I have also passed hundreds of doping tests that I clearly should have failed since I was doping all along."

I love the title: "The Crucifixion of Lance Armstrong"

"We inherited such procedures from Great Britain during the colonial era, and our Founding Fathers strengthened and enshrined them in our Constitution. Our Liberty rests on their continued viability."
Lest we forget.

"Insofar as USADA operates with the blessing of the Congress and under the nominal supervision of the White House "Drug Czar," and considering the un-American manner in which it conducts its business, it is high time the Congress moves to revoke its charter and halt its access to American taxpayer dollars."

It seems that nothing goes better with apple pie than Lance Armstrong (served with a health portion of EPO).

LauraLyn: Is that article written in cuneiform script or in a font more suited to bicycling?

Coptic, I think. But it's been so long since I read it. Hard to remember.

(MarkvW: Does this mean you are not reading the articles you post?)
