RE: the Mellow Johnny's meet n greet:
No mention of Lance, but some good stories form Jens. Basic questions (none from the crowd) and autographs/photos afterward. For the Livestrong weekend, I thought there would be a lot more people, but still a decent turnout. I assume Lance will be riding tomorrow, but it doesn't sound like he'll be talking, if at all, until the UCI decision.

An even better symbolic choice might be Scott Mercier, who quit USPS rather than do drugs, which puts him well ahead of the likes of JV or any of the others in my book. The fact that cycling fans in the USA know the names Armstrong, Landis, Hamilton, Leipheimer, Hincapie, Zabriskie, or Vaughters and do not know the name Mercier is a crime that desperately needs to be rectified, and soon.

That's a fantastic idea.

Shocking.

His father would push his mother around, prompting the young Zabriskie to step in and try to protect her. One night, when Zabriskie was in junior high, his father was arrested after a SWAT team burst into their suburban Salt Lake City home.

Cycling became a refuge. Bruyneel took Zabriskie under his wing shortly after Zabriskie’s father died in 2002 from a failing liver. Soon, he was pressing Zabriskie to use performance-enhancing drugs, Zabriskie said.

“What Johan did to me, I consider it a form of abuse because it was so horrible and affected me for the rest of my life,” Zabriskie said, choking up. “I know I was the first person to tell my story because Johan, he doesn’t need to be around young cyclists.”

This is the best explanation yet about how this unfolded. A good book could be written about how Armstrong was taken down.

It is interesting that JV was pulling the same "maybe I did, maybe I didn't" sh!t with the USADA as he was with the cycling public. I would like to hear why he could not hire Landis, even when he thought that Floyd was at risk of suicide.

via JV...yeah, I would like to know that as well...and he was playing both sides as early as 2004...

Hey JV...let Floyd ride for you next season...if folks can deal with unrepentant master fattie favorite Jens, we would certainly appreciate seeing Floyd out there again for a last season...guy deserves a comeback shot...

When it comes to books, movies and documentaries about Armstrong, the doping, the narcissism, the cheating, the sociopathy, the ruining of people's lives, the slow uncovering of facts, the mindless denial of fact, the complicit media, the investigations, the co-opting of previously decent people, the underbelly of cycling and professional sports in general, there isn't going to be one book or movie or documentary or interview or article about any one of these subjects, there's going to be a multimedia library necessary to cover every facet of this.

This hoax is so unprecedented and it still has a lot left to unravel. We're really watching something historic.

I said it before, but the success of Hamilton's book pretty much guarantees the publishing industry will try to mine more gold from the same mountain. How the investigation unfolded is a good angle that would be substantially different than Hamilton's book. Barring a different angle, there is always the option to go with details that are more salacious or less corroborated. Hamilton and Coyle pretty much bent over backward so their effort would not appear vindictive or bitter. I cannot wait for the no holds barred accounts. There could be good exposes in mags like Vanity Fair or one of the shows on TruTV.

No media, just a guy from the shop I think (maybe the manager?). They did something similar last year with Levi and Horner. Basically just 20-30 minutes of really informal questions such as asking Jens about what he thought of Texas, how did he come up with the "shut up legs" things, etc. It wasn't an open forum for questions and no one there would have asked anything about Lance, I guarantee you.
The crowd was mostly was a bunch of recreational cyclists, most with Livestrong t-shirts and wristbands. A couple kids, but mainly middle-aged guys that you wouldn't want to see up close in lycra! I think the vast majority of people there came to see Jens.
After they spoke, they did autographs and photos. The shop was selling a poster for $15 with the guys' photos to sign, proceeds going to Livestrong of course. I didn't stay around after the talks ended.
I won't at the ride tomorrow as I drove up from San Antonio (about an hour away). I've been lurking in the Clinic for quite a while and I really wanted to see the mood at the shop after all this sh*t has gone down. Austin's also a pretty cool town and I needed to make a visit anyway.

Another article on the bully.

Interesting comment at of end of the article.

Bravo Daily News. A little information I've been sitting on for a long time... I first learned of Lance's drug use back in '00-01 when a pro tennis player friend of mine played some audio tapes made by his Austin-based physical therapist. On his deathbed with Leukemia, JT Neal, a mentor, father figure, and general helper to Lance and his teammates had secretly made many hours of audio tapes detailing what he viewed as Lance's selling his soul to the devil (my words, not his). Very close to Lance's mom, JT had been around Lance for a long time. They had been sick at the same time and had supported each other. He didn't seem to have a major financial motive in outing Lance, as he was an older man, was relatively well-off himself and knew he was dying. A fan of Lance's at the time, I went from being suspicious of JT's motives to fascinated by his character assassination of this cyclist we all lionized. JT was especially tormented by Lance's treatment of the people close to him...family, friends, teammates, and business partners. There was a lot of talk on the audiotapes about Lance cheating on Kristin and about Lance using various people close to him, even alienating his Mom (including Lance refusing to pay JT rent due for use of some Austin real estate Lance was using for his foundation). It was all less incriminating or scathing big picture, but I think it spoke to the man behind the hype though it's run of the mill for pro athletes sadly. The PED portions of the tapes were brief but detailed. JT had seen and touched vials and syringes containing EPO, transfused blood, etc and was very conflicted about having the knowledge and being involved in the coverup. I think the tapes were his way of getting it off his chest before passing. Given that JT sadly lost the fight to leukemia not long after making the tapes they were probably rendered useless by my college friend or whoever he shared them with. That said, JT can rest with the knowledge that he was one of the first to even attempt to reveal the massive conspiracy that seems to have finally unraveled. He would have been shocked at how long it lasted...

Did anybody see if the Texas college football game had lance parading around and the students donning livestrong shirts as planned prior to the 2nd quarter?

Ashenden currently on Cycling Central with in depth discussion of doping and the effect on the peleton and teams.

If you aren't able to watch it, definitely worth downloading through cyclingtorrents.nl later on.

Peter

Oh boy, Calus Mueller needs to go. He's definitely no leader and it's obvious he has his head buried in the sand and isn't capable of making the hard decisions that are currently needed.

Can be watched here:

The presenter has just said that the winner in 99 was 7th(Danielle Nardello) and in 2000 the same guy (clean)(ish) was 10th, every one else got busted!!

I've never heard of him!!

He was a pretty good rider, not far from the 1st tier. If I remember correctly he rode for Mapei, which pretty much eliminates any possibility he was clean.

No sign of Lance;
It seems they did but you can't tell from this type of photo angle how widespread the wearing was, or if there were any that didn't put the shirt on.

also, if memory serves, Simeoni reported that after his return to the main bunch (after LA had reeled him in in person in that famous tour stage) some of the worst abuse came from Nardello.
