Now that Armstrong is toppled and everyone has had a chance to kick him and stomp on him...now what? All are satisfied that the King of the dopers gets eliminated for ever while some dopers just get little slaps on the wrist. But what about the others? The ones we haven't talked about? Did Big Mig always race clean? Eddy the beloved cannibal - we know he was busted more than once but were all his other 525 victories clean? And Greg the crusader who makes a lot of noise; is he hiding anything? And the Badger, and Jaques A. etc. etc. etc. How is it that El Pirata - a confirmed doper - gets to keep his 1998 double header?
Is it any wonder that Armstrong's seven tour wins and all his other wins haven't been passed on to anyone? The only one racing clean probably finished # 123!!!!
What a joke. Are we really supposed to breathe a sigh of relief and believe that with Armstrong gone, doping is gone and all the people who won, won clean?

You must be new.

Oh, I'll back off then.

Dave.

Awesome post. Finally......a balanced piece, rational, almost Graham Watsonesque.

Well, first of all, Lance, you, excuse me, HE, Lance, AKA Wonderboy was never in the same league as the past champions mentioned. Not ever. Perhaps he compares favorably to a FuYu Li?

Now, a few extra penalties start. You know, the laws broken while committing sports fraud. Is it okay that he committed serial perjury and fraud for at least a decade? What about the intimidation? Is it okay to just break laws as long as one can get away with it? Because that's exactly what you are advocating.

What about the guys that put this whole fraudulent scheme together? They get a free ride too? Would it be okay if MLB was auctioning off the right to play the World Series and then still tried to call it a game?

I get it, the bromance is still on for you, but you are still being lied to and treated with complete contempt by Wonderboy, Wiesel/USA Cycling/UCI. I don't know why you like that, but whatever.

Try reading the rest of the clinic. All get kicked in here from riders, docs, DS icluding JV/Brailsford.

It appears that some have never heard of the WADA code.

Cycling ignored doping for decades. WADA was set up after the Festina mess to insure they could no longer ignore the issue.

While it is entertaining for a troll try to deflect from their hero and babble about Merckx, Indurain, or Pantani but the fact is none of them signed the WADA code. Lance did...... at least 7 times.

Cancer lover...

Right, besides it's not a valid defense to say others cheated too when you've been caught red handed, not to mention all the lying, bullying, defrauding cancer victims, etc...If anything that sets a good example for would be Lance admirers that you can't get away with it.

How far we've come, it's mind-boggling! So what's next, 60 days for the government to file their official complaint? I hope Weisel can't just settle for everyone, as in paying $100 million to make everything go away. I guess the government couldn't refuse that could they? Either way Landis is going to clean up...that's going to rub it in badly for Dopestrong who was just a $100k away job for Landis from walking!

its a ponzi scheme. the revenue the sport received from armstrong, it is now blood letting like a Robert Pattinson film.

Revenue up front. Bill to pay. yeah, cycling was always drug fuelled. but now the prize has been made into a joke. and wiggins and evans wont solve it.

And is it that each one named can be held as potentially liable for the whole amount--at least in theory?

Yes under joint liability, but in reality it is unlikely that will happen.

Awesome first post!!! Original. Thought provoking. Truly a stunner. This will probably go down as the originalist, thoughtist provokingist, stunningist post in the history of the intertubes. I can honestly say that I am glad I lived to see the day that this quality of post graced this humble forum. Spectacular. Spectacualrist.

Right. I get the rhetorical aspect, just trying to get clear on the leverage that can be applied.

It's smart to try to get the he11 out early and settle. It sounds to me like that option is being reserved for some, but maybe not for others. At this point, I want to see Johan go down more than anyone. Sure Wonderboy was the kingpin, but Johan was not far behind, and played a supporting role that deserves enmity as much as anyone. That mother****er better stay out of the US, and I am sure he will. "We might as well win"...f*ck him!

I am trying to be supportive of new members. This place has been accused of being hostile to new posters with one post who come in spouting the same bullsh!t over and over. I am merely trying to reverse that trend and welcome with open arms those who espouse opinions contrary to my own. Don't be so cynical.

BTW, Helmut, is that you?

Bruyneel will never get a job in cycling again. I want ****ing Weisrl to bleed, as well as Armstrong himself.

While all of these guys singularly would have proven to be World Class tools, it took the manipulation and facilitation by one guy.
Thom was the uber-competitive cheater that was the catalyst and business planner. Because he is who he is; he'll pay off any amount that keeps him out of a courtroom testimonial. He'll also consider it a win because he already knows the only friends he's had for the last twenty years are those he paid for.

This article on Weisel was posted some time back. It blows a hole, actually three holes, in his claim that he knew nothing about doping:

In documents prepared for a 2005 arbitration case in which the SCA insurance firm made an earlier attempt to recoup its $11 million, the Center for Investigative Reporting found reports of three incidents in which Weisel was allegedly confronted with the doping allegations swirling around the Postal Service team:
—In the 1996 team shake-up, team physician Steffen complained in faxes to Weisel that he was losing his job because he refused to allow drugs on the team…

While Armstrong was en route to his first Tour de France win in 1999, the team was roiled by a report that the cycling star had tested positive for cortisone, a banned substance. Team masseuse Emma O’Reilly claimed she had witnessed Weisel huddling with Armstrong in the cyclist’s massage room, “frantic about what to do about the positive test.”…

Retired U.S. cycling champion Greg LeMond publicly criticized Armstrong in 2001 for training with Ferrari, the reputed doping master. Soon, LeMond said, he got a threatening call from Weisel. “What you’re saying about Lance isn’t good for you,” LeMond claimed Weisel told him.

Technically no. Cycling was the last sport to sign wada. Just befor the Olympics in 2004 but interestingly after the tour. Armstrong initially set to go to the Olympics suddenly got cold feet and said he had to "spend time with his kids". **** pound called him out on it.

Welcome! I'm pretty sure I can speak for a NUMBER of folks here when I say this to you:

GREG HAS NEVER EVER EVER EVER(EVER EVER EVER) been busted for ANYTHING. It's been talked about here ad nauseum, Wonderboy paid good money to try to bust LeMond(hate to break it to you champ, NOTHING...NADA....ZILCH ever became of it). Others from the decades he rode in(and raced with and against him) have ALL said he was/is CLEAN!!!!

Oh, and pretty sure Hinault's been clean for ALL of his wins too(or else info would've come out by now, like with Greg, BOTH have been retired for over 20+ yrs)

Sorry to have spoiled your evening.

Cycling was a pure and noble virgin until it was despoiled by bad Lance Armstrong. Once Lance Armstrong has been chastised, and his corrupt defenders driven away, cycling will once again become the pure and noble sport that it always has been!
