There are allegations and rumors that he took opioid painkillers. I couldn't find a reputable source to substantiate those, however. But IF it's true (big if) one can do a lot of damage to oneself if your natural pain response is blocked by drugs.

Doping didn't end with Lance Armstrong. Scott Mercier on NewsTalk.

He explained why he thinks the UCI have not been hard enough, saying "I think we need to reach a point where everyone is held accountable."

He added that based on what has been coming out recently, "doping did not end with Lance Armstrong" and that he is disheartened by the way money continues to talk and prevent real change in cycling.

I believe Armstrong admits to his ADD in this interview. Fairly much the same condition LeMond has.

Some good Golf chat for those who enjoy the game.

DID THE PUNISHMENT for what Tiger did exceed the crime? As someone with some experience along those lines, I'd say it did. What happened was, the media changed. Somewhere between the end of Michael Jordan's career in 2003 and Tiger's scandal in 2009, the media stopped being compliant to athletes and celebrities. They no longer protected them, because they no longer needed them. In the digital world, all that matters is the scoop. The mainstream media is right there with the TMZs and Deadspins, because they can't afford to be beaten. The upshot is that there are no more sacred cows out there, and a lot more harshness. If John Kennedy and Frank Sinatra were alive and conducting their lives the way they did in their primes, they'd be devoured.

NEXT MONTH I'm playing Augusta National for the first time. I've been invited by the former president of Nike, Charlie Denson. Lanny Wadkins is coming, too. Charlie said, "You want to join me at Augusta?" and I answered, "Does the pope wear red slippers?" Pine Valley this month, Augusta National next month. How am I doing?

Good post Lance

Whew, I'm glad you posted the latest "Armstrong talking points to an obscure media outlet." His thread had slipped off the front page and I felt kinda empty and out of sorts.

I liked this quote from the article:

CHRIS FROOME, the British cyclist who won the Tour de France in 2013, does everything wrong. He's got a choppy pedal stroke. His arms are sticking out, his head is down, and he's all over the bike. He's the Jim Furyk of cycling, unconventional in every way. Except that it works. And the reason it works is superior cadence. His tempo is amazing. It's paced in a way that gives his unusual mechanics time to fall together. The golf swing can be the same way.

No, the reason why "it worked", is because Froome was doping(a subject Wonderboy is all too familiar with). Gimme a break.

Info here too : http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/report-armstrong-associates-settle-with-us-government

Hopefully it's not good news for Dopestrong...it doesn't sound like a very large amount given the overall claims? Surely Stapleton made a lot more money on the "fraud" than $500,000 as Armstrong's agent ?

Yes, USA today appeared to get the story first.

Two of Lance Armstrong's longtime business associates have agreed to pay $500,000 to the United States government as part of a conditional settlement in a lawsuit filed by former Armstrong teammate Floyd Landis.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...pleton-knaggs-landis-cse-settlement/20655287/

If approved by the U.S. government, the settlement would release Stapleton, Knaggs and their agency, Capital Sports & Entertainment, from Landis' lawsuit in exchange for their combined payments of $500,000 to the government and $100,000 to Scott.

And then there's was one....

Well, there might be more than one but: If they'll settle with the primary CSE partners for $500K, and those partners were 20% of endorsement deals and significant benefactors of the USPS contract then...

It appears a settlement with Armstrong etal would be well south of this 100Mish figure being tossed around as a potential penalty.

Capital Sports was just a bit player, receiving just a small fraction of the overall cash as a fee. The big money flowed to Lance.

Mathematically:

1/(small fraction)*$500k = very large number

Dave.

Friday news.. Probably a good deal by Knaggs and Stapleton.

Both Knaggs and Stapleton are getting off easy. I see Stapleton and Knaggs pleading the fif... 1,2,3,4,fifth.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdeo7Q2E5cE

Landis' lawyer gets a measly 100,000...

It's time to restart who got paid what and when. I certainly don't remember any of it.

The settlement could involve provision of testimony as well. Who better to flip on LA and 'da Weezil...?

That small amount in light of the fraud would indeed only make sense if it came with a testimony of sorts. Especially since it's written they "agreed" to pay these amounts so someone (the lawyers of the US Government?) would have had to make that offer and $500k doesn't sound like it's worth anyone's time given what's at stake.

He who settles first, settles least...and then you can use their testimony against the guy who wasn't smart enough to settle before you did. The amount they settled for is in no way an indication of the amount Lance will have to pay. Things just got a lot more difficult for Lance.

The government is sitting with a full boat, and Armstrong is drawing dead. Notice that there is nothing suggesting that Stapleton and Knaggs settled with a stipulation that they admitted to no wrongdoing...that isn't there for a reason.
