For me, the best explanation for this is that it was exactly what it appears to be: solely a donation to aid in the fight against doping.

If this was a "bribe" it is about the stupidest bribe possible because it (unnecessarily) left behind a clear paper trail and it didn't provide a financial benefit to a corrupt individual. I don't buy it.

I think that Lance sincerely wanted specific dope tests employed--tests that would discover doping regimens used by other members of the peloton (but not used by Lance and USPS).

If you can help the UCI catch your opponents out for doping, that would clearly help your own competitive advantage. That's how I interpret this mess.
Haha - that's funny.

Where is this "clear paper trail"?
McQuaid can't even tell when they received this wondrous donation and Lance couldn't recall how much he gave.
It was 2006, no 2005 - there was only one donation. Oh, wait there was 2 donations and the second one was in 2007.

As former UCI member Sylvia Schenk said:
"The UCI was always very proud of its accounts - why have these documents not been made public in these last five years? It is the UCI's own fault that rumours are spreading. The UCI urgently needs to become more transparent."

The paper trail for Lance's well publisized donations are a lot more clear than the supposed "protection" he received. That is for sure.

Sylvia herself said that a cover up of a positive test would be highly unlikely.

So where is the evidence of Lance being protected?
Hello, evidence, where are you?

Lance never had a serious enough crash to keep him from winning 7 IN A ROW.
Incredible and awesome.

Did Hein run out of the woods to catch Lance when he fell?
Big Fluffy Pillows?

How about all the Gendarmes that would line the course and ride in the US Postal Team Car carrying heat?
Was that the "protection" you guys so often allude to?

Where is the evidence of this protection?

Donations/bribes to the UCI or UCI decision making officials could cover up lab positives, if any, in 6 of 7 Armstrong TdF wins (1999-2004).

After the 2004 TdF UCI signed up to the Wada Code.

A "donation" in 2005 may be of assistance for favourable UCI treatment in an area not in the WADA jurisdiction eg., Vrijman Report into 1999 "B" sample scientific testing.

Could be, could be.
Its possible I suppose.

Or how about the donations were used by the UCI to outfit Lance with special bib shorts to keep monkeys from flying out of his ***?

Remember the nervous twitch Lance had?
Yanking on his shorts?
Evidence of itchy monkeys right there.

Correct - remember before Floyd blew the whistle Pat is on record (second audio) in October 2007 as saying:
"I can tell you that it was $100,000.
It was paid specifically to buy a sysmex machine which cost I think something in the region of $88,000 and the donation has been paid.
It was paid ,I think in actual fact it was about, the cash came in to our account, in actual fact, about ....15 months ago."
.... "15 months ago" would have been around May 2006 when the Vrijman Report was leaked.

See? How can you hate this guy...

That was a great post!

gah! can't get away from this guy

so i'm on the LIVESTRONG mailing list because i've supported people riding... i;ve stayed on the list because i've found it absolutely fascinating how they time their newsletter, particularly to coincide with events at the TDF.

coincidence that an open letter about a summit in september comes out today?

good marketing, i suppose, but nauseating nonetheless.

Nothing unusual about that. Many, probably most non profits do similar things.

I can't figure out if this comment is facetious or not.

Lance,

Don't let the FBI, FDA, IRS, DEA, Interpol an Department of Justice get you riled up. They will never get you. And don't let the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Sports Illustrated and 60 Minutes stories bum you out. LIVESTRONG and STAYSTRONG!!!!

You need to read on...they are bordering on Jim Jones' followers for blind faith. Would their Kool-aid be lemonade instead of grape?

Patently facetious.

Big activity surge after 60 Minutes now down to a trickle. Time to get the LIVESTRONG interns active!

Who is Larry Hamilton? Has Tyler changed his name?

Maybe his unborn twin was to be called Larry?

Larry Hamilton is ****ed because he got caught doing something he was not supposed to be doing (doping) instead of being a man and admitting to his wrongful doing. Larry decided he would just start making up rumors about you and the rest of the team! His story to Scott on 60 minutes, Larry could never look him in the eye nor could he think of correct dates of this so happening!

That is funny. These guys are so ignorant that they do not even know the names of riders. Their grasp of the details is poor. But, boy, are they convinced that everyone but Lance must be lying.

This one comes from Old Man from Stage 16 on Sep 18th, 2010.

Lance, it was an honor to bump into you after your nearly won stage 16 at the tour this year. Our coming together caused me to swallow some false teeth which I had to painfully pass a few days later. It was just like you say - what bites you in the a$$ and doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Oh, and I loved it when you reenacted "the look" after you passed me. You are the best!

What do they need to say now that the "Lance and lots of other unnamed and unknown riders paid the UCI to keep the Tour de France from finding any positives among the top riders so Lance won the race on a level playing field which proves that he would have won anyway" theory is out there convincing us all. Who's writing the Warren Report?

How did the last 19 pages of Fanboy nonsense full of baseless conjecture have anything to do with any interesting piece anyone found on Lance Armstrong?
