There you go again, Assterhammer, or Amsterhammer (or however the hell you call yourself), with that arrogant pr!cks insult. Come on, can't you image something more spirited, like: a$$, fùckhole, d!ckwad, fartface, mutterfùcker....b!itcho!?

I agree with Amsterhammer...

I think you are pompous, and see things from a very narrow aspect. American vs European........I wonder are you a former ex pro and if so did you accomplish anything close to Armstrong, Lemond, or Hampsten?

Well everyone is entitled to think as they see fit. Allthough I disagree that mine is the narrow perspective. Living in Italy, while having come from the US, my cultural parameters have been widened. Excuse me if I have sounded "pompous" for stating it. It's just what happens after a while though, you know, so I can't help that.

And labeling pejoratively (upsetting?) my analysis as an America vs. Europe thesis/antithesis construct, simply because the former is approached with a critical set of eyes informed from an outside perspective (which by nature is widened), demonstrates a certain fragilty in regards to one's own cultural identity typical of a provincial perspective (by its nature narrow).

Would you mind linking--I'd be interested in reading those. Sorry, I'm a newbie to the forums. :)

Here is the paper:

Lucía A, Hoyos J, Pérez M, Santalla A, Chicharro JL. Inverse relationship between VO2max and economy/efficiency in world-class cyclists. Med Sci Sports Exerc. 2002 Dec;34(12):2079-84
PURPOSE: To determine the relationship that exists between VO2max and cycling economy/efficiency during intense, submaximal exercise in world-class road professional cyclists. METHODS Each of 11 male cyclists (26+/-1 yr (mean +/- SEM); VO2max: 72.0 +/- 1.8 mL x kg(-1) x min(-1)) performed: 1) a ramp test for O2max determination and 2) a constant-load test of 20-min duration at the power output eliciting 80% of subjects' VO2max during the previous ramp test (mean power output of 385 +/- 7 W). Cycling economy (CE) and gross mechanical efficiency (GE) were calculated during the constant-load tests. RESULTS: CE and GE averaged 85.2 +/- 2.3 W x L(-1) x min(-1) and 24.5 +/- 0.7%, respectively. An inverse, significant correlation was found between 1) VO2max (mL x kg(-0.32) x min(-1)) and both CE (r = -0.71; P = 0.01) and GE (-0.72; P = 0.01), and 2) VO2max (mL x kg(-1) x min(-1)) and both CE (r = -0.65; P = 0.03) and GE (-0.64; P = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS: A high CE/GE seems to compensate for a relatively low VO2max in professional cyclists.

Good morning America!! Hello hello Lance boys!! You guys still here???:p:D

Lets see how long they stay away before they say something like, Armstrong will destroy everyone in the TT or on Ventoux or some other BS.

Armstrong rode well...I always was hoping he had what it takes to win the Tour but its definitely not going to happen. He doesn't have the snap or the strength anymore to battle the younger legs of his teamates and the Schlek bothers.

You have to admit he was dead on about today setting the tone for the race. I see Contador winning the TT, and maybe the Ventoux.......I would be happy to see Lance win it but I don't think he can.

Oh they've done that already. Some fanboy already posted somewher that LA is "definitely" waiting for the time trial.:p

Yeah, still pretty impressive for the old man. I was just hoping he had more than he'd shown to make things interesting the final week. Oh well, awesome performance by AC.

Kloden was the real teammate dragging LA along, sacrificing seconds that could cost potentially cost him a podium finish. In a way, kind of demeaning for Lance to have to be dragged like that. So you couldn't hang, no big deal, let Kloden ride ahead.

LA hinted at coming back next year. I'm sure in the back of his mind he thinks he can be stronger next year without the long lay off, the crash, etc... But if he wants to come back as a team leader and have much real chance to build a top team, he'll have to figure out a way to get on the podium this year.

JB pretty much tipped the hand early on when he said this morning something along the lines of "I think AC will attack....I think LA is happy to stay where he's at and wait".

LA said himself he didn't know what to expect today, and I don't think any of us really knew. Most didn't expect big time gaps today, and for the most part that's true, bookended by AC and LA a good bit out on each end. Certainly some had that kind of pegged, it just took until today to sort it out.

Classy as always

I agree that JB telegraphed the plan that has been in the works all the while. Lance showed what a class act he really is in the post stage interview. He'll protect AC all the way into Paris and be proud to be a vital part of the winning team. Truly a one of a kind athlete. Congrats to AC, LA, and ASTANA, Kings of the Yellow once again!

Everyone is so happy to see the old man Lance not counter attack today and lose time. The main thing is he is still ahead of everyone else but contador. Contador's attack today was fine. It was within team plans and he did what he had to do to win. He had good legs and took time out on his rivals. It was an excellent attack and team Astana showed how strong they are and still have the potential to sweep the podium.

4 years out of the sport and he still is in second! That has to say alot about what level he is at and what level the rest of the riders are at. That is what should be looked at.

No, he got dropped by all of the real favorites. They will not be scared to attack him again, It only gets worse from here.

Fanboy

As a professional Psychologist I thought I would share something with the group here. Anyone continuously using the word 'fanboy' is exactly that - a 'reverse fanboy', someone who is infatuated with hating something regardless of the facts. I just thought I would share so a few of you understand you are psychologically worse off than the Lance 'fanboys'; but, you try to compensate by ridiculing, etc...

I'm right F-in here, you tool. And damn proud of a 37-year-old who had the ball$ to come out of retirement and is still very much in contention for a podium finish.

Read my history of posts - I'm no fan boy. But that's a hell of an accomplishment, period. Very impressive win by AC - looked like the kind of explosiveness we used to see from Pantani, (and maybe even a certain Texan). Chapeau to him.

As for you fools who revel in the failures of others (hard to call 2nd on the podium a "failure"), I can think of NO OTHER WEAKER character flaw. Immensely weak.

BroDeal, I know you're a big enough person to see the accomplishment. If it makes you feel better, go beat up the nieghbor's kid. :p

Yes dropped and lost a few seconds to his rivals. You don't make a attack to keep your podium position until the end stages. To chase done the other guys would be a waste of energy. Even though who knows if he could of went. It's specualtion. He is still a minute plus on Andy schleck and he will gain time on him in the tt. Second place is pretty good for a old man

Funny, any "professional Psychologist" trying to assess the psyche of someone based on posts on an internet forum isn't much of a Psychologist. I think you must have gotten that degree from Hoboken Community College.

You can be anything you want on the internet...I'll bet the words "Would you like fries with that" are familiar to you.

Yea, I would suggest, based on the pontifications of most of the LA brigade, that you not count those chickens just yet. Just ask some of your brothers how crow tastes.

Hey Mr. Professional Psychologist, why not offer an opinion of Mr. Armstrong's chasing of Simeoni. That one should be easy for such an accomplished professional.

Credit to AC

Agree completely. Some guys like thoughtf and endu666 lose all credibility when they post some of the drivel. if Armstrong won today - he'd have been a doper. If he loses, then he's an old man and let's laugh at America and all of his fans. It makes no difference what he does, so they don't have any credibility regarding the subject. No one was more profuse in their congratulations and admiration of AC than Lance in the post race and no one was more clear that this was a TEAM that he was proud to be a part of. Read JB's twitter - the whole team knew on the bus this morning that this was the plan. Lance should ride into Paris in 2nd and that's an amazing accomplishment. Now he gets to go pass ANOTHER drug test and prove you guys wrong again for the 10,000th time! It's starting to become obvious that some of you hate him just becasue he's American. What the heck was that "hello America" comment? regardless of what happens from here forward. Lance Armstrong is still the winningest TDF rider and with a 4 year break and at 37 years old, he's in second place with a week to go. As Hogan said the first time he saw Jack hit a golf ball - "he play's a game with which I'm not familiar". That can most certainly be said about Lance.

to be fair, regardless of his performance today... he is still a doper
