Superb in the timed events.
Awful when it comes to "injecting" (pun intended) a bit of tactical nous?
Don't be late Pedro said:Well, they topped the WTC medal table in 2005 before the announcement and were second in 2004 so seemed like they were doing well before. Anything is possible but how is it the UK get special track dispensation. Wouldn't China be given it for 2008?
will10 said:Bunch racing ain't his thing. Which is odd considering his huge engine.
JimmyFingers said:Wow, such insight. Presumably he lacked such tactical nous when he won the worlds at the event. Stamina let him down, but then that's not entirely consistent with what you are suggesting, is it?
Did you watch the Devil race? He was very clever in each sprint, stayed until his legs blew and when he got eliminated he had just sat up and let the pelton go. What does that sum up exactly?
I am not saying no one is doping. But it is a step up to say that the IOC and UCI have given them a green light to do what they want because it is the Olympics. Sure, they might have been doing it before and that is what they had previous results. Its sad that things have got to a point where anyone that wins is a doper. Given the history I understand why but still..FoxxyBrown1111 said:Ok your point. OTOH cycling doping and GB in the 2000s isn´t new. But anyway, everybody did it heavily back then.
JimmyFingers said:he won three sprints outright in the points, and finished 10th in the scratch when at least 8 riders had taken a lap, so in real time placed well. In the Devil he was 6th or so, and just gave up when he blew, but he sprinted when until that happened. Again stamina is his problem, not bunch sprints.I have seen him win them in the Tour series in the UK on the road
Did anyone commentating here on Clancy actually watch him ride or are you simply going by results?

The thing is you need to have the legs to cover the breakaways. He tried to follow Hansen in the scratch race but gave up because he just couldn't. Hansen went on to get the lap himself. His main event it the TP so obviously he is going to be stronger for events in that distance. In, fact if the Kilo comes back he wants to do that in 2016.cycladianpirate said:He blew the rest of the field away and yet failed to cover a pretty obvious breakaway in BOTH the points race and the scratch.
Plenty of stuff flying about on this forum and most of it pretty nebulous, but you have to admit this is a little odd. Nobody "just trains" for the Omnium and ignores this pretty basic stuff.
cycladianpirate said:It wasn't just that Clancy did 'very well' on the flying lap and the kilo. He blew the rest of the field away and yet failed to cover a pretty obvious breakaway in BOTH the points race and the scratch.

the big ring said:DId you? I already said he unclipped mid elimination race...yet you missed my post AND the mid-race incident. I've seen nothing mentioned in the news, but it sure as heck looked like he did.
JimmyFingers said:I didn't see that or anything in the replays but I'm sure it may have happened. My comment wasn't directed at you so much.
the big ring said:With about 8-9 riders to go his leg (right) goes weird and he spends a lap looking down at that pedal. Having done it - at Master's worlds - myself, I know how hard it is to clip back in ( I couldn't ).
BroDeal said:We grow 'em big in America. All natural. The win at all costs attitude is for lesser nations, like those that would cheat with intentional cycling crashes, bogus rowing equipment failure, illegal cycling equipment, etc.
JimmyFingers said:So if he managed to clip back in he's doping?

One of them said he "didn't know what to make of that"

JimmyFingers said:You said bunch sprints ain't his thing, yet he won three in the points, survived well into the top ten in the devil, and finished well in the final sprint of the scratch, all bunch sprints. What disadvantaged was his stamina, hardly indicative of anything nefarious
