I would think that will be hard. Actually, I would think that Armstrong wouldn't want him on his team next year if his plans really are to ride the TdF again like he said last week. It appears to me that he thinks another year of racing will better prepare him, and he could be right. The only problem is that men like Contador and Schlecklet are only going to get stronger also.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see him retire this year depending on what happens in the next week. If he becomes a non factor, I would think he will have to take a hard look at his plans.

+1.

If he doesn't get a podium spot, how interested would he be in racing? In the Versus interview today, he said he almost quit his comeback after his collarbone break but JB talked him out of it.

Pro cycling seems like an incredibly hard life to lead. You certainly have to have some kind of hunger to shoot for the top. Might be hard to keep that fire burning when you're already wealthy and have 7 TDFs to your name.

My highlights from today:

Contador's acceleration (and LA's lack thereof!!!)

Wiggo just keeps getting better

The peloton passed a waterfall called the Cascade de Pi55evache. Now it's been a while since French O-level but doesn't that mean Cow's Pi55 Waterfall which is genius. Especially if, like me, your humour has struggled to get out of the playground.:p

Yea, AC's attacks are just hard to fathom. Especially how the rest of the group was on the limit after Saxo and Garmin's pace at the start.

I have no idea what the Schlecklet thinks he sees as Contador's weakness. Especially with Andy's TT problems.

Wiggins! How excellent is that? I'm not making any accusations at all, but I'm just hoping this is all above board. Too many of our past revelations have turned out to be not what we thought (again, no reason to think anything)

How about a round for Cancellara too? That man and Voight exploded themselves out there today (and the race). True champions in my book.

Again, Mr Armstrong made his own bed. I am merely enjoying watching him lie in it.
Dont get me wrong, I have no problem with that attitude. Personally I don't like the guy, four months ago I called him a prick in this very forum. I'm just suggesting seperating the distain of LA from those who have been lead to believe that he is The Greatest Cyclist of All Time. Lance will always be Lance, but fanboys and girls can learn more of the sport than Phil and Paul are willing to disclose. Those here can learn as well, as long as we dont unnecessarily berate them.

I thought Liggett was gonna cry at the end of the stage today though in fairness to Phil, he's the only Versus guy who defended AC's attack on stage 7. He sounded so depressed about AC's win. Seems like Paul wasn't even commentating at the end.

However, those two are mild compared to John Wilcockson. What a douche. Hasn't said one good thing about Contador since the start of the tour.

Read his twitter here: http://twitter.com/johnwilcockson

Yea, he's got a book about LA but why throw away all your journalistic integrity?

When did he talk 'massive ****', I think all he said was he'd come here to try and win, which is what most of the GC riders came to do didn't they ?

NO, he said he was coming back for Cancer, then the Giro, then Alberto is number 1, then we'll see what happens in Tour, (even though Alberto didn't defend the Giro to focus exclusively on the Tour as part of the bargain)then all of the sudden: I'm here to win, I've won 7 tours give me some credit, then talking all that I'm good team mate, AC isn't I mean I swear I'm not a fan or a hater but chispas, give it a break already the guy has not other option but to show some "humility" after his *** has been kicked, live it, love it, and BTW it will be great if AC gives a gift to him at Ventoux, that way he will understand what Pantani felt after his "good warm statements"

Reported 40 Tours and still didnt learn anything...douche indeed "Outside late-night pizza joint. Young French boy w/family asks: "Have you seen Lance?" "Where's Astana staying?" No questions about Alberto." Seems he cant get over the fact AC is the best

I think that Armstrong wants a team of his own and that might be the driving factor for next years tour. Racing next year might be the only way to bring on big sponsorship money needed to build a power in the peloton. I think Lance is not an easy person to read so the rest of the season will take its course.

Yes, both are aweseom team players. When Fabian blew up it almost looked like he was spinning backwards.

I might have to watch the Versus prime time show tonight. Bob Roll might call in sick, however!

i think wiggins will ride a monster TT and thus be able to hold schleck behind him ...but i could be wrong if schleck puts massive time into wiggins on mount ventoux.

Don't forget Tues and Wed stages as well. There are a lot of big mountains before Ventoux which is why I think Andy will finish 2nd. (Hopefully) there will be a lot of attacks on those stages as Sastre, Evans etc will be trying to prove something.

Does anyone know the best result in the Tour for a person that is 37+ years old? Just wondering if there was a yardstick to compare the great American to.

Can we just compare him to the guys that finished ahead of him today?

Firmin Lambot, won in 1922 at age 36. close. :)

The oldest to make the podium is Raymond
Poulidor, third in 1976 at 40.

So who knows, maybe lance has 3 more seasons in him. :)

Good to see we can all still have a fun laugh in the forums. It can't be serious trash talking and juvenile fighting all the time ;)
