272kms again, on Sunday… A bit (too?) long - I fear Wout will miss the victory, again…

Everything more than 255/260kms is hard for him. Exception was his MSR victory, but 300kms of MSR probably are easier to handle than 260kms of RVV, for example.

Hard parcours with more than 260kms, that‘s difficult for Wout. Glasgow parcours looks soft to medium hard, but it‘s long.

Btw, Wout turns 30 next year, and has never had a solo victory at a monument.

He in fact „only“ won one monument, MSR. When Matthew Goss won his first monument, MSR, I thought the best was still to come, for Gossy. I was wrong, MSR victory remained his only monument victory.

In Wout‘s case, it‘s possible that MSR will remain his only monument win. But it‘s also possible that he‘ll have won all five monuments when retiring.

In all, I hope WVA and MvdP will regularly race LBL and Lombardia, in the future. They both showed some promise there, few years ago.

If that's all there is to say, maybe you should not say anything else.

Why not? why is that hurtfull my man let me tell you somethnig. Ive 20 times this year alone had converastion with WVA and he himselft would be the first to agree why saying someone is stronger and better (which the results speaks for itself anyway over a timeframe on 15 + years) saying one thing dont take away from wva himself beeing a world class rider its level to things and one should thought adults wasnt this affected to people they dont even know about saying one is better than the other to the ban them, nvm.....anyway im done trying to teach you guys this i think most people seen enough after today about who can match MVDP in power if they still somewhat dont get it i couldnt care less.

WVA is a world class rider and really rare in terms of his adaptations.

so people still believe WVA can match MVDP power? Or have you seen enough now??

or we gonne get banned cause some people here prefer to live in a alternative universe other than reality. Just curious some of you never learn a single thing so im genuinly curious.
In the immortal words of Lisa Cuddy (MD) - what are you, five?

Another bittersweet silver for WVA. Mathieu was at least a class above, if not several, and benefited from Jumbo-Belgians' efforts to force a selection to boot. Wonder if WVA did too much wurk between 120km to catching Bettiol, but I think it would not have made a difference, because VDP was just better.

So, perhaps play ball instead of player, no?

I'm not going to dignify your ramblings with an answer.

OK so everyone here know I have been one of the biggest wva detractors on the forum the last couple of years.

But I think it's clear that if VDP was here in the best shape he would win, the course just suits his capacities perfectly. Twisty, short explosive efforts repeated a ridiculous number of times over 270km, bad weather, steep climbs but never longer than 30 seconds.

I don't really understand how wva beats a top level VDP. 2nd was about the best he could get and he got it. Maybe he did a bit too much work at some points in the race but not like he made a silly mistake. He is a similar talent but not the same kind of rider as VDP.

In the past seasons I was calling him Belgian pozzato because he was incredibly physically strong but wasted opportunities with defensive and unintelligent racing, poor decision making, lack of initiative. I think however this season he just had a bit of bad luck and faced 2 simply stronger opponents. Van der poel and pogacar both have their best years right now, and with the exception of roubaix, where wva had his flattire, the courses of the other big races favour their repeated accelerations

Three laps before the end I already feared it would be silver again. He's such a terrific racer, and would really deserve another major win. He's a lot stronger than guys who did win a world title, Flanders or Roubaix. His main bad luck is that he's so often up against two exceptional opponents: MvdP and Pogacar, which leaves little room to take major wins.

He does still have an impressive list of wins: San Remo, Amstel, Wevelgem, Strade, nine Tour stages, green jersey and three cyclocross world titles. However he needs another big one to make it complete.

He should look at Joop Zoetemelk, who was also the eternal second, but ended up winning a world title at the age of thirty-eight. Just keep trying, man!
