He rode in the perfect way to ensure that he doesn‘t get to fight for the win today. This was never going to come down to a bunch sprint and yet he didn‘t try anything uphill. Very frustrating

He didn't have the legs, but could still have tried to be a bit more proactive maybe, but its very hard when youre this marked on top of not being in great shape.

It's also pointless when you have a teammate up the road that's covered every move. Concede for his sake and control the field behind by setting false tempo and shutting down bridge attempts to your mate.
Visma got nothing out of the effort today.

With the Hôtel des Invalides in the background he proved that he's a fighter. In the past he's often been unhappy with silver, but today he was happy with bronze.

Since the start of 2023:

7x Wins (22.6% of podiums)
10x 2nds (32.3% of podiums)
14x 3rds (45.2% of podiums)

We need to reconsider the whole 2nd place Wout thing...

Before 2023:

39x Wins (44.8% of podiums)
28x 2nds (32.2% of podiums)
20x 3rds (23.0% of podiums)

actually incredibly beautiful inverted numbers. Like you could not do that if you tried even playing a ping-pong tournament with your family.

Still gets the same amount of 2nd places as ever... but wins vs 3rd have flipped.

The Bronze Belgian is more apt recently than Mr. Second Place aha.

He is such a loser. Where is his winning mentality? He is always playing the team player card and no one helps him winning sh#t. He should leave Visma and should stop racing with Remco. He neevr gets the chance to fight for the win.

I don't know that he was strong enough to win himself.
The problem is we never know because he never gets the opportunity to fight for the win. He was the only rider able to follow MVP, not Remco. If Pogacar was here, Remco would not win this race because MVP would go alone with him and WVA. Remco is overachieving because WVA is always blocking the race for him so all races play in Remco's strenghts.

This is nonsense. Last year in Glasgow Wout was the main man for the Belgium team and Remco did the early attacks as he had no chance. Same with Visma in the big races, his problem is just that VdP is slightly better than him.

Remco also road 200km for Wout in Leuven WC.

Just gotta say for all the flak he gets; he's a good teammate.
Indeed. No radio is perfect excuse to « forget » he has Remco up the road, several riders clearly lost control of who was where during the race.

On another day MVP,Jorgensen and Pedersen elevators Wut back into G1 and he wins the sprint or MVP is awake to cancel Remco’s attack.

Stellar teammate today, for sure, but you gotta be disappointed with that last crash.

We're well into the "if he didn't have bad luck, he wouldn't have any luck at all" phase. I hope this changes soon.

Some truth to that yet… MVDP hasn’t looked on his best this year despite his wins in Ronde and P-R. He did an okay race at LBL but since then very bleak. And then Wout has slowly pieced himself back again but only just that. It would be a very sad day for cycling if these two begin to fade away this early in their careers but clearly they are both not at their best. Should they regain their peaks riders like Remco will not have much to do at races like MSR, SB, RVV and PR and will have serious issues on eg LBL. Only Pog will be a real contender. I would love to see WVA get a big win soon!
