This race proves yet again why classics are better than GTs. The parcours wasn't too good, but the riders made it hard because tomorrow doesn't matter.

World championships should have five man teams as well!

+1 from me. Loved it

I think you are all being absurd thinking Uran sold the race. He has limited experience in a situation like that. He made a mistake against a vastly more experienced, much cleverer rider who also has a better jump.

Unfair on Castroviejo. He did a metric ton of work early in the day cos he'd been in the break since the start, and with Albasini and co. LLS and Valverde sat on way too passively for riders of their stature for sure though.

True enough. What were Sanchez and Valverde waiting for 30 riders back then?

What a strange race. Disappointment for Team GB. Great that Vino goes out at the top. Valiant GB effort. Germans gutless. Timing and Hugh Porter an embarrassment. Jill Douglas interview with Vino disgraceful.

Two things:

They did not exactly rule the waves. Hubris is fatal. But will they now become slaves to VINO, too?

Come to think of it, it was naive of me to diss Eisel when he should be lauded. In these dark days of nationalist bias, his gesture was of a genuinely federalist kind. Chapeau!

Great way to go, VINO.

Uran, looks behind, over wrong shoulder, for the invisible chasers.
Continues to turn a blind eye as Vino goes.

Vino isn't short of the odd bit of bullion.

Precisely. What a start for fair sport at the Olympics, lol.

Guys for real... how experienced is Uran with this kind of thing?

Vino is a winner, don't be completely shocked if he tackles Uran (be it with strength, smarts or cash^^)

Aussie and German Teams; Commiserations to the Swiss

Where were the Aussie and German teams???? You had two of the best sprinters in the race and (Martin apart and a little bit too late by the Germans) did nothing for them.

Did the Aussie's really not chase for Goss because they thought O'Grady was going to win the sprint?

Really feel for Cancellara (and the Swiss team who were playing a blinder for him) - he must have been a strong favourite to take Gold from that group and he must be in doubt for the Time Trial now.

Sad but true. The race was great in terms of spectacle but in terms of result, big step backwards for pro racing

Disagree. This is probably Vino's swansong. And a finish like this will be remembered much more fondly and reflect much better on the sport as a spectacle than a tightly controlled lovefest ending in a sprint.

Remember how dope or no dope, every year when we get to the end of the Tour people discuss the chances of somebody 'doing a Vino'? We don't get that about any of the sprints.
