It's the same as Radioshack sending Zubeldia to attack with 1km to go in San Sebastián 2010, a minute after the leaders had sprinted out the victory. Besides, if they hadn't managed to get anybody in the top 10, it would have been hilarious, yes, but very bad for such an on-paper dream team.

No they just had the wrong guy in the move. No radios today? If not, Thor should have said something.Thor? That is funny, though, after he left Garmin for a real team. He just sat up in the face of his teammates.

Yeah I only watched the last few km. what went wrong? I know gilbert had a mechanical.

Hushovd was in the front group but didn't have it in the tank and got dropped with about 35km to go. Looked like he and Breschel were hanging on about 15-20s back so BMC hesitated with the chase until it was too late.

edit: Gilbert's mechanical was an extremely minor issue, didn't affect the race at all.

they might have had a chance to catch the front group if they started earlier. They should have known Hushovd is terrible in these climbs. 5th is not an absolute failure on paper. but quite a bad performance.

BMC are the biggest losers today!! once again the amount of superstars does not guarantee victory at all- can't wait until the house of cards crumbles form inside out:D

Yeah it was obvious as a viewer that as soon as he was dropped that he wasn't going to catch back on, I wonder what info his team got.

I love Flecha's enthousiasm about his third place, awesome guy!

I like him so much cos of that attitude. He says if he finishes 1st or 3rd it doesn't matter as long as he has given it his best. Love him.

they should have chased immediately once thor was in the group with no on else. He really stinks at the cobbled hills.

Yeah, for sure, I noticed him in P-R, but working on the front is different than saving enough to drop everyone or sprint out the win after 260km. I agree about his potential, but I'm just saying he hasn't been in that position yet enough (ie. at all) for me to see him as a 'favourite' for those races. Sprinting out the win strongly after 200k + working hard for your leaders deep into a full-length classic does not always equal being able to put it all together.
Based on today, who seems like having more energy left after this hard race? Surely Vanmarcke. Boonen wins 99 out of 100 times in a sprint after a race like this.

That's why I think he can handle the longer distances.

Yeah, sigh... what the hell was Boom doing there? Trying to shove away the master?

Sweet! This was a good race for me. The other 4 tomorrow should be a lot worse, oh well.

I must admit, when they called it the Barcelona of cycling on Belgian tv, I was kinda hoping they would fail today, and they certainly did that. Hushovd just wasn't strong enough, but their tactic was even worse.

Anyway, great race, with an even greater winner. Something must go horribly wrong for that guy not to end up with a couple of really big classic wins in his carreer.

wow, so great to see a young rider attack and systematically drop almost everyone, then take out the sprint too, congrats Sep!
