but ask Dim, about his opinions on Spanish cyclists. Surely Antonio cant be Spanish. It would ruin the purity of Team Sky.

Yeh but Antonio is a northern european spaniard, hes practically dutch. hes not one of those climbing spaniards :D

Worryingly for the other teams, Boonen, Gilbert, Haussler etc all did a lot of work today.. EbH did next to nothing, just sat in wheels all day.

Hes going to be tough to beat tommorow.

The only problem with that logic is that EBH didn't do anything at the end of the race. Sky would have loved to have had 2 men on the podium, but Farrar actually beat EBH at the end. That doesn't exactly impress me about how he was riding today, so I don't know why he should be the huge favorite for tomorrow.

It looked like EBH opened the sprint way to early and was caught by a few riders on the line. so I would call it a badly timed sprint rather than "not doing anything".

I'm not saying EBH is a favourite though. I think he probably had to work fairly hard today as well to be there at the front all the time. He might be fresher than Flecha though.

Ole Flecha! Bravissimo tio, eres un fiera!

I am very, VERY happy for Flecha, he really deserves the win, he's always in the mix right at the front but like another poster said something usually goes wrong. I wish he scored this victory on another team though as I am not a big fan of Team Sky, they just rubbed me wrong from the onset with how they conducted business.

Video of the final meters and an interview with Flecha further down. EBH says to TV2 that he was not allowed to attack or follow attacks when Flecha was at the front - which probably means that if it was his choice, he would've attacked or perhaps followed Haussler.

just a mention EBH did not look like he had much at the end.......pretty much got swamped in the sprint

+1 to that. Great win ans start of the sesaon for Flecha. Too bad he has to be on Team Douche.

You say cheating Spanish climbers almost like you think they have that market cornered. Do you honestly believe that they are the only ones?

Team Douche? I knew I'd seen them before.

:D
A couple of guys on this site's "sister" forum are demanding fanboy solidarity in support of Team Sky. You aren't even allowed to remain neutral, or even handed.
Failure to comply is unpatriotic, the equivalent of burning the Union Jack.

Paceline is reborn and rebranded.

at last!!!! FLECHA!!!!!-endless congrats to him-well deserved victory and a big one for Sky team-this is an enormous boost for the coming classic!:D
I must say BMC is the big looser of the day-very disappointing.
Well Done Flecha, Pretty **** job BMC.. All I can say is average. They have a lot of cards to play in the cobbles but hardly featured at all.Can somebody tell me what happened to them?

Sounds like a possible source for some classic, comic quotes. I'll have to check it out.

Good team spirit, and spot on DSing by sunderland.

Downing, sutton and stannard worked their butts off for the first half of the race keeping the pressure up, protecting ebh and flecha, downing especially was a monster.

When flecha punctured hayman was right by his side ready with a wheel, unlike boonens teammates when he punctured, maybe QS instead of taking goes at attacking should have supported Tom, Chavenel could have supported rather than attacking. Sky then kept flecha and ebh rested for the end.

Good team spirit, excellent tactics. but its easier to have good team spirit when youre winning.

Little Details.. ;)

I dont think sky so much got it right, as quickstep and a few others got it very wrong.

Good win to Flecha, I like the guy. Had some bad luck in Roubaix last year and was robbed of Ghent Wevelgem in 2005. Also a Spanish rider who loves the cobbled races.

Also credit should go to Niko Eeckhout (who is older then a 7 time TDF winner) who came in 7th.

one important quote o saw earlier from scott sunderland was that they felt no pressure as they already have 5 wins (whereas garmin and cervelo have none), and didnt have home pressure of quickstep or omega.

really pleased for russ downing, to have played a part in a classic win, i imagine his smile is bigger than the traffic jams by spaghetti junction
