Unbelievably, I just read through the topic, and this is the only smart comment I found.

Seriously @Langeveld is toast quotes. Did you guys watch the same race? He looked like he was just riding his own pace, not trying to stay infront of Flecha (that would blow yourself up). Flecha was going maximum and almost killed himself to fix the final 100m...

The thing about cycling is that langeveld could of been the 10th strongest rider on the day and flecha the strongest, but Langeveld still WON.

I am starting to feel really weird that I am agreeing with you!:p

It's all what if, but if Flecha went when Langeveld attacked he would've probably dropped Langeveld somewhere along the way.

But if Flecha went that early than the other teams would perhaps have organized a better chase.

Flecha closed a pretty big gap, of course he was tired after he finally caught him...

We can theorize all day, in the end though Langeveld won and I doubt you'd find many that would say it wasn't deserved.

Also, I was amazed at how well Degenkolb kept going, I do think he has a fantastic future in the northern classics

Indeed. Very impressive by a first year pro. And the guy is a beast.. those legs..

Dam. I just watched the replay, since I couldn't watch it live (idiotically, I had made a promise to go to a museum today..), and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed, being an unabashed Flecha-fanboy. Pretty weird race today, but kudos to langeveld, (and to ak-zaaf, the only person on earth who predicted langeveld to win).

Also, Offredo looked strong. If and when he gets a brain, he might win some big races.

Actually Leukemans predicted Langeveld to win as well before the race started :)

Hmmm. Bla bla?
When Flecha reached Langeveld they both rode the same distance in the same time, while Langeveld rode more of that time alone compared to Flecha. So maybe Langeveld was stronger then Flecha?
This is also bla bla, but I'm not so sure Flecha would've dropped Langeveld. Not at all actually.

I did predict Langeveld would do well considering his results (4, 5th in mallorca, not outside the top 25 in algarve + 13th gc). But all credit to AK-Zaaf (and Leukemans) for actually predicting he'd win

To close a gap you need to ride faster than someone. Hence Flecha attacked too late probably, but he still looked stronger to me than Langeveld. Point proven today.

Stop being such a blatanty sour Belgian.

Calling Flecha stronger has nothing to do with being Belgian. Just look at how easily Flecha took time on the Langemunt.

Langeveld was the better sprinter of the two, but for me Flecha was the strongest. Thor won the worlds, but that doesn't mean he was the strongest in the race... To give an example.

The sprint was soo close and Flecha was in the worst position to start a sprint in. That's the tactical part of the sport. Langeveld had better tactic than Flecha hence he won. But I wouldn't say he was stronger, he wasn't.

Langeveld started riding on 90% when he had the info that the gap was at 35 seconds.... and still Flecha struggled when the gap was 11 seconds. Add tot that Langeveld was already riding solo from 55km and Flecha started his attack 25km later, how can you even compare strength?
You're wrong.

Langeveld started to back down when the gap was at 13 seconds. He said so him self after the race.

No, get your facts straight. Dekker's accusations in your direction are looking more and more like the truth. He said that when the gap was about half a minute he started going at 90%. Then at 13 seconds he practically stood still so Flecha could get to him. Anyway, this is a pointless discussion seeing as both of you are adamant in your views. Thus, just agree to disagree and spare us a perpetual foolish back and forth.

The grapes are sour over in Belgium, I can see. Don't worry, Boonen is bound to win something, somewhere, this season.

As explained already this morning in a PM, just thought I'd repeat here to give everyone a laugh.

I saw the race on Saturday as planned, but only from my car, stuck on the sliproad of the E40 at Wetteren as the race rolled by.

The way I'd intended to go from there in order to get to the Haaghoek was pretty much the same as the parcours of the race so, doomed to occupy a permanent position off the back of the bunch like Stijn Devolder, I quit at Oosterzele and went home where I promptly sank a couple of hastily chilled quadrupels.

Things didn't turn out all bad, then.

Best laid plans ruined by unexpected Brussels traffic problems and trying to be too clever with the timing. Better luck next time! :p

The press in Belgium seem to be quite ruthless on their riders especially Boonen.

Why does it always turn into an argument on here? Who cares who was strongest out of the two? Sky and rabo both got their victories they deserved over the weekend.

No, Boonen gets nothing but praise right now.

The headline in today's newspaper was "Only Boonen in beeld"

And it's not like I care about a Belgian winning the Omloop as I don't.

When there won't be a Belgian in the top 10 of P-R or the RVV then I'll be sour, but for a race that isn't even on the World Tour? Pass.

I'm just saying Flecha looked stronger in the last 30km.

What would this board be without a discussion? Let me answer that: "lame".

Discussion - yes. Arguments where comments used include "you are wrong" are petty and stupid
