Shoots his girlfriend on Valentine's Day...

He says he mistook her for a burglar, but quite honestly, I don't think he's got a leg to stand on.

Sheez...
Some people just have a certain drama to them, you know somehting's going to happen, and not necessarily gold.
Apparently knew the house well, been there for domestic violence. They're not really believing the burglary story.
BS anyway to shoot someone before announcing yourself, that's a crime right there.
Will he play the double amputee defense? If it would have been me making such a stupendous error (if it was), they'd not find me alive. Especially with a lethal gun handily in one's hand.

Great Nike ad campaign from 2011.

What's the penal system like in South Africa, what's the worst punishment he could receive.

They don't have the death penalty so I guess it depends whether they have a life sentence without parole, if not probably 25 years until parole or at hearing at least.

I guess it might depend on whether it is considered premeditated or not.

No, and if he is, he's not a big time user judging by his build. Suggesting it's roid rage is ridiculous.

If there is a history of domestic violence (wife beating), would roid rage really be such an out-rage-ous option? Would roid rage not to some extent help push a guy over the limit from uncool to outright homicide?

I doubt it was roid rage - but there may have been alcohol involved because I read somewhere that he was legless.

I think it could be a factor, the difference between slapping her and shooting her.

Paranoid jealousy is a side effect of steroid use.

Another story of the media building a guy up because everyone wants a feelgood story but the reality is very different from the image. This guy is a Amrstrong-level a-hole.

Nike sure knows how to pick 'em.

I always found his talents for self-promotion and high profile a bit unnerving, never liked him as much as I was 'meant' to. Of course it's easy as pie to say that now, though.

This is not a "tragedy" or an accident this a brutal, chilling cold blooded murder.

Since when is a murder no tragedy? It may be a one-sided tragedy whereas an accident is a two-sided tragedy, but a tragedy it still is.

It's semantics. It's a one sides tragedy for the girl and her family. Some of the media are still going by the "he could have thought it was a burglar line" which is ridiculous.

Nike, sponsoring wholesome human beings since 1978

Yup, it also sponsors wholesome football programs like the one at Penn State University.

Who is next on the scandal list? Rory McIlroy? Nike will need to up its prophecy marketing as that ‘ball in cup’ ad with Tiger is lame.

I have to say that I believe him about the burglar thing. What makes me believe that what happened was rather a tragic accident than a murder in purpose, is the fact that he lives in Pretoria. Having relatives there I can assure you that people live and sleep with guns by their side because this place has indeed huge criminality problem.

On the other hand it seems very stupid the way this happened... very stupid indeed to be something that hw was planing to do .She wasn't his wife.. he had nothing to gain by killing her, ( her fortune or something) and why someone would plan to kill his girlfriend without having not even a decent alibi?? And if this is a "crime of passion" wouldn't there be a quarrel or something? Nobody heard anything.. he just woke up in the middle of the night and shot her  This doesn't make much sense.
