Ion Izagirre on track for his 21st top 10 in one of the 7 major one-week races. That will put him first among current pros ahead of Quintana with whom he shares the first place at the moment.

That's a surprise to me after a very lacklustre 2025 (but it probably also does say a bit about the field).

More surprising that Quintana shares that lead tbh. He's not the first that comes to mind as a consistent one-week rider. Although a long career of being among the best in the world helps, I guess.

They're actually quite far ahead of the rest.

Next on the list is Roglic with 16 and then Yates and Kelderman (who has no podiums) on 15.

Please tell me which rider in the current generation is a better benchmark for Vingegaard. Especially a hypothetical Vingegaard who is challenging Pogacar.
That is also true but can't see Vingegaard so much stronger like Pogacar in 2024. Vingegaard doesn't have the tendency to be good all season like Pogacar. But there is no point discussing this right now, we will know the answer in 4 months

Yeah, it's very obvious Vingegaard was stronger in the 2023 and 2025 Vuelta compared to the Tour.
Well in 2023 he was very strong, and had the shitters in the first week. In 2025 he was ill during the 2nd week.

I can only say that Vingegaard and Visma say he pushes better numbers after a GT. If you want to say that's a lie, fine.

Unfortunate that the only two real stage racers crashed out or didn't even attend, so its hard to tell how strong he really is. Almeida wouldn't really challenge him on this route and with the terrible weather yesterday, but Ayuso very well could've. Its just lacklustre honestly, but still a good win considering the time gaps and I guess you can only win against the riders lining up

It's a obvious lie (I don't think there is someone who really believes Vingegaard was better in the Vuelta). Roglic was at his level in the 2023 Vuelta and Almeida was close to him in 2025.
Tell me a rider (not named Pogacar) who was remotely close to Vingegaard in 2023 or 2025 TdF?

But why could Ayuso have challenged him? I know it's usual for a young rider or a rider in a new team to become a shiny object for cycling fans, but let's stick to the facts. When has Ayuso ever been able to challenge Vingegaard?

He probably would have been on the podium, but Ayuso isn't exactly known for his consistency.

maybe they meant better numbers in training? In Vuelta 2025 he looked like he was content to do just enough to win. You would not think Pidcock and Hindley could get within 5 minutes of him in a Tour.

just saying gaps are nuts. look at the history of this race. This will be biggest gap in almost 100 years and by far
Context is important, no? His biggest rival crashed and he gained a lot of time due to echelons.
Is it impressive? Yes, it is! This is something Pogacar couldn't do? Oh please... and that was your point.
