Don't forget Gilbert in 2009 GdL

Gilbert, unlike Andy and Andreas, is a decent sprinter. Don't forget that he won the two men sprint with Boonen several days before 2009 GdL at Paris-Tours.

Yeah, and if you look back at the sprint Gilbert had to sprint twice instead of once. And Samu still couldn't overtake him.

Very true, just thinking of all the examples of Samu coming in 2nd in meaningful sprints.

This is in the Kloden CN article. Anyone know what happened?

"In fact, Klöden had words at the end of stage 4 in Belleville with FDJ's Yoann Offredo."

i don't know what that was about but since last year i can't stand that pompous french pricc.

From CN report:
"I cannot remember when I won my last race in a sprint," Klöden said. "It is not really my specialty but Jani Brajkovic told me to get on his wheel, that he would lead the sprint for me and I thought I might as well try.
"I never thought I would be able to beat Samuel Sanchez in a sprint. It's great for me since I also get the yellow jersey. It's also great for the team. I am so happy."

Offredo crashed on stage 3, maybe Klöden was involved in that as well?

Yeah but he had a headstart on Boonen who was stupid enough to get in Bozic' wheel

Maybe it's because Offredo speaks out about you-know-what?

But still, a decent sprinter.
Can finnish 5th-15th in a (slightly uphill) GT sprint I think.

Sanchez looked utterly fecked at the end of that - if he fluffed his change not sure it made any difference - but in any case if he fluffed his change then - loser!!!

I don't think it was Richie.

1. He certainly weighs more than 58kg. More like 64kg
2. He did that Mount Wellington ride when he was 23 after two years of road racing. IF you want to compare to Evans who had the original record, he did it when he was 22 and it was one of his first races. If Evans and Porte raced up there now I am pretty sure we all know who would win and it ain't Richie.
3. Someone like Bauke Mollema (I am being serious here) who you would call a climber, climbed better than him at the giro this year who is younger and has big potential as a climber. Porte hasn't proven himself as a climber, only as a time trialler. I guess we will see how he goes in the upcoming stages.

Totaly agree with you ACF on all points. Contrary to popular opinion you have proved yourself to be totaly unbiased and that was some good analysis right there.

So did Martin drop Wiggins/Rogers at the top of that last climb or was it more that he raced smarter and they missed the break?

A move formed in the last few KM of the climb by people attacking in ones and twos and none of the Sky trio in the leading group managed to get in it. Martin was very astute to see the move was a good one and rode well to bridge on his own.

Just finished watching the stage. Probably worth waiting for.

anyone else had memories of grand bornard 2004 when they saw Samu coming up on him?

Its a shame Samu didnt win, but as his biggest fan here, it probably would have been better for him to get the win when im here.

What was that about Frank Schleck winning if he wanted to

Porte too for that matter.

And while i admire Tony Martin, he won Eneco on 2 man break + tt and Algarve on a tt. Dont like seeing the same thing now at Paris Nice

Still i think this proves that even after letting go of world class riders 2 years in a row, htc are still streets ahead of others.

It is nice when someone pays a compliment just to be friendly and courteous.:)
