He was 1:17 up when he punctured, lost about 30 seconds and then crashed and lost 30 more. Give him a minute back and unwavered concentration and I'm not so sure they would have caught him.
Yes the bike change came at exactly the wrong time. But he had a few near misses as well sliding around as many of them did I'm sure. He seemed to be bouncing around more than some of the others. Maybe tire pressure ?

I agree, heck i doubt they would have seen him again.
He rode very long on that flat tire waiting for the change. This takes a lot of energy.
+ he would have been out of sight and they wouldn't be able to bridge the gap on one section.

Riders don't usually peak at the age of 31. It's quite remarkable
I have Froome as an example but it might not be the best example in this part of the forum haha.

I don't have sufficient knowledge to counter argument this point with evidences, but I've always had the feeling that being that old and having results in cycling is pretty common. Might be wrong after all!

Be interesting to know what happened to Senechal. I know he had a mechanical but he never got back up the groups like Asgreen or Lampaert did. Seems to have come in in 64th but even someone like Sagan finished ahead of him and Sagan had a big crash.

Vermeersch man of the match. Look at the number of hits today on pcs.

His interview afterwards was something special too. Such amazing self belief for someone so young!

Brilliant brilliant ride today! Hopefully he has a very bright future ahead of him.

A special shoutout to Jonas Rutsch. 11th in his first Roubaix, at the age of 23.
Also Mozzato, 19th in his first Roubaix at the age of 23. It's a good thing that he turned pro with a French PCT team that allows him to race the cobbled classics, if he just rode for an Italian PCT team he would have very few chances to ride on the cobbles (see Colbrelli before 2017).

He's having a great year but nothing surprising that a rider reaches his peak at this age tbf.

He had several top(or nearly)10 in classics/semi-classics if you check since 2017: MSR, Ronde, Brabantse, Omloop, KBK etc..
It still seems a bit outlandish that he is staying on Alaphilippe’s wheel during one of Ala’s monster uphill attacks one weekend and staying with (and beating) Van der Poel on the Roubaix cobbles the next!

Can't get over the crash in Arenberg where Mads P went down on the wheel of MvdP. He was also knocked out by other riders in Leuven.

He did the only important awesome thing though, which is winning.
He worked like the rest, well deserved winner.
he didn't work like the rest. Common. He was glued to MvdP's wheel once MvdP catched on, until they catched Moscon. The only serious effort he did was chasing MvdP who was tired that Colbrelli was wheelsucking.
I called that smart here on this forum during the race, so I acknowledge that he did the right thing. But it wasn't beautiful to watch.

Ya, tbf, when you add in some of his teammates performances then too, it gets more odd.
