If you're in the front trio right now you and you win, you deserve to win. Sure, Colbrelli is the "boring" option, but he deserves the chance to sprint for the win if the others can't drop him because he's already had to respond to several attacks to be here and earn that right to use his sprint if it comes down to it. Vermeersch is the romantic choice, as the underdog and the new face overperforming from the break and the 'a star is born' moment potential, and van der Poel is the man who's been the strongest and forced the selections and broken everybody despite that everybody knew it would be him and would have been keeping their eyes on him throughout. All three would be a deserving winner for the same, and nevertheless different, reasons.

I agree Van der Poel deserves to win the race.

VDP the favourite in a sprint after this kind of mayhem, Colbrelli a decent chance as probably the best sprinter under normal conditions, Vermeersch the sympathetic underdog…
