I love the cycling tradition of random known figures coming to one day races to help out the team.

Remember them panning the camera to a very casual looking Colombian one year in Dwars(?) and it was Nairo Quintana fist pumping whilst holding a wheel on the side of a cobbled berg.

Well the 2nd group are the ones who managed to get through the crash without much delay. Most of the former 1st peloton has now merged with the 2nd peloton to become the 3rd group because they were all held up by the crash.

Looks like it wasn't so I've no idea how the VDP group dropped that much as there looks like a very sizable remainder of the crashed peleton still there.

MVDP has to go crazy later but I think he will drop anyone that will tryna following him

He might run out of steam before he reaches the front

big favourites being behind but not absurdly so sets the race up perfectly. more possible permutations, more suspense, more chaos, better to watch
I think that gap is too big now myself. The big favourites won't have much domestiques left soon and that 1st group is going to get large again. We're going to have over a 2 minute gap soon which they're not pulling back. This needed to be under a minute really at Arenberg.

Crash has decided the outcome. Blocked roads are the worst

Yup. Gap at that point was small enough that the favourites could have rode across themselves on a cobbled section easily. I can't see them getting back now at all

There were 6kms of normal roads after that pavé section so everything would have come back together.

Crash happened at the worst moment for the peloton. If it had happened 5 kms earlier it wouldn't have held them up but they had just gotten close enough for it to end their race.

Oh no, he is not winning or bridging this. VDP lost the race by chatting in the back after 20 kilometers. Clear as that

Still more than 40km of cobbles to go.

Could be more crashes. Mechanicals. Riders running out of energy. This race takes no prisoners.

I wouldnt count out those behind, until we see situation of the race after Arenberg.
