Not a bad race but like always in this era there's a lot of excitement missing when the outsiders have no chance of winning and the best riders are pulling 80ks beforen the finsih line. Unfortuneately that's the time we're in. This won't change in the next years. Great that rutsch and Hoelgaard got a top 10.

Lazkano completely exploded after pulling that hard in the break.

I agree, although today's example was a bit different, since VDP didn't get that advantage by attacking as the strongest (see Koppenberg 2024 or Glasgow 2023) but rather a crash. To that point, I didn't think Pogacar had showed himself to be weaker (honestly I'm beginning to wonder if the whole car-pickle juice handup was a charade because there was certainly some other playacting.) and I was fully expecting him to close the gap to MVDP. After the sector where the motos were 10 metres in front of him he never gained more time.
I think this is fairly common in Roubaix when somone loses time due to an accident, they first close 10s on adrenaline or whatever and then they gradually blow up.

It reminded me of Boonen vs Pozzato in 2009 IIRC.

I guess he would have been dropped sooner or later anyway, but as I just saw an interview with him: Bissegger had a mechanical as well at that point. He had to take a wheel from neutral service, and therefor lost too much time to get back on with Philipsen.
If he had been with Philipsen when Pogi forgot to turn in the corner, they could have caught him, I think.

Checking again, it wasn't Wright who made it, but either Van Mechelen or Bauhaus.

I also don't get why UAE let the pace drop in the group. Politt followed one attack, but not the next one. Had he kept the pace higher, UAE had a greater chance to have the numbers after Arenberg.

I'm admittedly a big Pog fan (and a MvdP fan, though I'm annoyed he doesn't race more), but I think MvdP was the stronger today. Maybe Pog wasn't quite cooked, but he seemed to me to be losing energy faster than Mathieu. Just my impression though, I could be wrong.
Also the way I saw it and to me Pogacar rolls way easier than MVP, who doesn't give off always smooth round pedaling, he is just a monster,
Pog gives me the look that he carries a little more speed. All that , today it looked to me that 50,45 to go Pogacar starting taking a little longer to fall back on the wheel, and even before he fell off his bike his upper body looked to be moving more than normal, looking just a little tiny bit toasted. Once he was chasing more obvious from what I saw..
And to be clear as I am evaluating and absolute stallion on the bike, while I am on the sofa..Pogacar rode an incredible race ,including his concentration during the chase.
If he wasn't extraordinary he would not have shattered almost everyone, he would not have been a major catalyst in forcing the selection and he would not have rolled to a solo second against some really fast deeply talented racers. And the way he tries to blow everyone up.. All the time.. Relentless attacking.. Fun to watch. Even when he loses he does it with style.
Him Telegraphing what he is going to do, not very imaginative.. He basically says over and over..
Going to make the race as hard as possible.
. And he does.. Can you tell I am a fanboy!!
Hoping for astounding Giro regardless of who races..

Today just showed Pogacar is the best classics rider. He can win all 5, on the other hand MVP can't win LBL and GdL.
Have to disagree with you on MVDP not being able to win LBL. It would be tough. But not impossible. Maybe not against Pogacar. But he might not always be there/be at his best during LBL. Lombardi is too hard admittedly.
