Sagan's sprinting at the end of a hard race is pretty unpredictable, to put it mildly. And he knows it. He'll try to go solo I think, which could backfire.

I guess the thinking was that if a teammate would have come back to help, WVA would have dropped them immediately on the cobbles anyway. - given the power he need to put out to make up the ground. Then they would have been out of the race. Better keep them up front so they could be of some use later.

IMHO they failed before it. I think he was still there when Sagan jumped those 50m in the breakaway group.

Sure, why risk any of them (there were 3 or 4 of them in the front at that moment) KNOWING they could be helping on the flat sections, for an off chance they MIGHT be able to help later, IF he isn't cooked by then. Genious.
