I mean I doubt they just let her get 2 minutes, it's more like "I'm not gonna follow big attacks the first sections" and then when they actually start riding harder and harder they're all like "oh *** the gap is only going up"

Also much of the route has a decent tailwind.
I’m sure they didn’t “just let her,” but when she made her move there must have been a JV rider, or Drops or DSM who should have seen “hey, that’s Lizzie Deignan attacking…”

The race may have been over from the second we could see it, but the exhibition on display here is far from done.

I noticed Deignan really goes without fear through the cobbled curves. She has a lot of faith in the tires / grip, that's for sure.

I think that is always the way to ride here. It is when you get insecure or try to take it easy you will go down. Being shaky on the bike.

If Movistar, SD Worx and JV work really well together (which propbably won't happen with all the Trek riders there) they might be able to close at least some of the gap.

Deignan running really big tires. Looks like equipment choice is a big factor. I wondered what the tire choice would be, and it looks like Deignan got it right.
She's riding on a Domane so the max tire width she could go is 38mm. Although I think she's on 30-32.

Is there a max tire width allowed by UCI in road races (just like in the CX)?

4 JV riders in that peloton. Someone needs to be hammering these asphalt sections and driving the chase unless they’re all admitting that they’re racing for 2nd.

What was the gap of tom boonen in 2012? This is a huge solo victory. Deignan is immediately cementing herself in the history books with this ride.

I don’t think there is a max tire width, because there isn’t the obvious advantage you’d get from riding 2” tires in CX mud.

Fuglsang looked like he was riding 35 or 40c at Strade Bianche the other year.
