Stannard's 4th place will increase Sky's lead on the team cq ranking even further, they now have about 1000 points over the 2nd placed team.

I thought flat courses were supposed to made for boring racing, which you can't attack on and get away?
Excellent, exciting edition. So animated throughout.
Well done the GVA and MM for timing it to perfection.
GVA was always going to win that 2-man sprint!

Around 50km to go, Cav must have decided he didn't have it. Wouldn't be shocked if this was his first serious ride in 2 weeks...

Still, they had degenkolb to work for. but then he decided to go with one of the small chase groups.

Might this be what all flat races will be like without HTC and race radios? One can dream.

Was a pretty exciting edition of Paris- tours that is exactly what I like out of a supposed sprinters course hard enough so that if you put in the hard yards you still have a chance. Anyway well done GVA someone other than cuddles winning for BMC could become a more regular occurrence next year

Marcato doesn't look happy on the podium. He's really deserving of a big win soon, if you ask me.

yes, kind of a novelty to see a BMC rider apart from Evans win something.. Not a bad race that.

Maybe the twisty stuff at the end helped and the crosswinds earlier on.

I agree, despite my obvious bias towards Van Avermaet this time, Marcato is excellent and hopefully will win something big, just not a 2 up sprint with a BMC rider

True, coming tied 3rd in something will be quite an achievement in the context of Australian sport so far this year. :p

I would have bet on Marcato, but GvA was probably due a big win as well. Good ride by Stannard (pretty good conditions for him :)).

p.s. There is actually a match for third/fourth in the Rugby World Cup.

I was going to correct that to any win, his last came in 2007, but then I remembered he won Vendée last week. Great rider.

Nice race and great win by GVA. He tried all year and made one work...hopefully that will help inspire Marcato to keep up his attacking ways and get his own big win soon.

Nice race, strange that milan sanremo(which has been a sprinters race recently) and paris tour with it's quite flat profile didn't end up in a big sprint this year, hopefully Van Avaermat is a popular enough winner so they dont feel the need to change it...

MSR and Paris-Tours have been some of the best classics this year. Shows that profile isn't everything, as long as you have aggressive racing (with some help from the weather) it makes for a great race.
