Who the $#%@ is Spidertech?

The point and comparison being made is that Team SpiderTech (Canada) have gone about their Pro Conti application without telling the world how good they're going to be, and which classics and WC riders they are going to sign with their alleged (Pegasus) 14 million budget. And they got their Pro Conti license last week.

Ahh yes. I understand now but I never knew Spidertech got the licence.

I feel very sorry for the riders and the staff many of whom will now struggle to get any job at all, or at best, be fighting over a few reduced value contracts given most budgets will be fully spent. I hope they are all able to find a home.

Thankfully now we won't have to put up with CW's stupid photo pose he does in every interview with his cr@p sunnies on, arms folded, and his bad a$$ stare! You're not a bad a$$ mate, your an accountant. And certainly no businessman.

Exactly.. we all heard about Pegasus, and them not getting theirs (subject to paperwork). Spidertech slipped quietly under the radar. Great thing for canadian cycling btw. :D

Agree. I hope the riders aren't disadvantaged too much.

LOL @ the last paragraph. If he turns it around in 12 months and finds a decent sponsor we will. But the only chance Pegasus has of finding a sponsor after this debacle is for White to step down and be a spectator. He won't find a sponsor whilst he's in charge.

Another guy I hope finds a team is Robbie mcewen. A legend like him does not deserve to go out like this. I think I would hunt down Chris White if he was forced to retire.

Robbie will find somewhere. If the worst comes to the worst the chicken is looking for riders, although he may be more interested in Zajchek

It is clear that the team needs to seek sponsorship from outside of Australia. The happy hunting grounds of the U.S. would be a good place to start. I have it on good authority that Noble House International is interested in funding a team. I suggest that someone contact Gary Coleman immediately.

It seems to me CW sold the team based on getting a ProTour license when that fell through it was Plan B, C, D, E and then just a huge fail.

Plan B was cancellara, Plan C was Contador, Plan D Was Huschovd.. what the hell was plan E?

That was his downfall.

He was focusing on going after top riders that he lost track of the bigger picture. Those cyclists were never going to go somewhere that couldn't accommodate them. Until he had the sponsor signed up and had a good chance of getting a pro-tour licence, the riders were never going to sign. They read through White and subsequently didn't sign.

The best way he could have gone about it was get the sponsor signed up, go for a pro-conti licence, keep his mouth shut, don't aim for goals out of his reach (pro-tour). Nothing wrong with aiming for a pro-conti licence next year and being at that level for a few years. Instead he was focused on the Pro-Tour which led to a string of failures.

Fly V rumoured to be interested

Despite having a year left in his contract with the Saxo Bank team, the in-form Australian rider Richie Porte is on the wish list of several other teams for 2011 ....

Robbie will have no problem getting a contract - though probably not for the same $'s he could have if he'd resigned with Katusha. Though his old sparing partner Super Mario may recommend him - he's certainly got the Machismo that Mario likes so much.

Svein Tuft and a few others who have points and or some level of results in recent years will also likely find a spot - again for lower contracts than they could have negotiated earlier.

But there will be a number of guys like the Milram riders who may struggle to get new contracts, there will be a few who were probably a stretch to get a PC contract in the first place, and a few like Trent Lowe (who's health probs over the last year or two) may make him a lost talent that others may not wish to punt on.

I think people expected Chris White to know what he was doing because of Fly V Australia.

I have to admit i'm a bit guilty of that. I am filthy with CW now. I thought that he made some seroius recruitment errors but I had gone past that and grown a touch of respect for him and the team he created as a pro conti level team. When someone mentioned that he could have been talking the team up for publicity that made a bit of sense but i can see now that he just was talking s**t. No credibility whatsoever!

And the silver lining... I'm pleased for Spidertech although i do believe that an Australian team should try and blend resources with them. Perhaps also with pureblack racing to create a Southern Hemisphere team wouldnt be a bad idea. Obviously, it needs to be long term and well planned thing but there was a stand at the World Champs in Geelong talking of a Protour team in Aus that wasn't Pegasus. Lets hope they learn from CW's mistakes.

The future of Australian cycling is still strong. The depth and wealth of talented young riders is unsurpassed IMO. unfortunately **** happens in cycling its just comes with the territory. I havn't lost all hope of An Aussie team at the top level in the near future and until then BMC will see me through.

That would explain why he was so confident of getting a tour de france invite then. All makes sense now. And when Tommy D didnt sign the whole thing went tits up.

Shane Stokes has said that he heard rumours that the team was not over. Supposedly Velonews will have a story up on some further developments in the story.

I just hope this farce doesn't stop other Australian companies from sponsoring in the future.

Yeah, following that on Twitter. Eagerly waiting to see what they say.

"The current reports by some media outlets that the Team has folded are not correct. Pegasus Sports CEO Chris White said. "I have not spoken to any of these media outlets and what is being currently reported is false and most detrimental to a very exciting project. All people associated with the Team are aware of the true circumstances and we continue to work towards meeting the UCI deadline."
