Its hard to know just exactly how much extra energy he used on those punctures, but I honestly still think he would've run out of gas. Roubaix just doesn't suit him that well.

Anyways, this must really suck for him, I really do feel for him. What a shitty year so far.

You may be right but it's quite impossible to know. But don't you think he at least himself didn't believe he would run out of gas? Otherwise he was just showing off, and I find that unlikely even though some probably would claim that that is what he does.

He seemed so strong - but I guess he wasn't completely out of it with 20 km to go so I understand your arguments very well.

And yes, it has been a sad, sad spring. But at least we know the victories will come in California, Suisse and TdF. But it will be very difficult for him to save his season so we can call it a success (because of his ridiculously high level and standards). I guess he definitely needs to win in Bergen for that to be the case.

I don't know, but I had the impression that he burned too many matches to win relatively early on in a race where he isn't superman. Then he punctures and its obviously over, too bad.

The thing is that stages in California and Suisse doesn't mean anything at this point. He will win green easily, but how many stages is the question? Still, winning the 3rd WC in a row will safe the season no matter what. The route is super good for him, but its ages since the Belgian squad has been this loaded (if GvA and Gilbert shows up in good form).

Exactly. It doesn't really matter, and a sixth green jersey is not even something that can elevate his season especially - it is just something taken for granted because he is so superior in that department.

But I don't know about the World's course fitting him that well. As I have understood it, the circuit only contains one climb, and after its summit there still remains some 10 kilometres. It could be mightily difficult to keep control of the situation all that way, and it might be a Milan-Sanremo like lottery.

It was designed with 2015 Kristoff in mind. I'm expecting an easier Ponferrada or a Geelong type race. Could be easier though.

IMO the punctures might have been the result of pushing too hard on the cobbles and not selecting a good line. None of the others got any punctures at that time. It brings to mind the CX WC in bieles in horrible conditions where the u23 race had very little punctures and the senior race was badly affected by punctures all around. Maybe if he pushes around as hard as he did in the recon he may know if he requires different set of tires. Based on the way he got dropped after that, i think he would have lost the sprint to GVA due to low energy.

Well, it's difficult to speculate what if. If it weren't for the first puncture, Sagan with Bodnar would stay away with Stuyven and Oss much longer the Stuyven and Oss alone. Also, they would go at steady pace, which would suit Sagan much more then the attacks, to which Sagan had to react alone. Also, Stybar would by dead until the 4 would be caught, if that was the case.
Weren't it for the 2nd puncture, only god knows how would Carrefour end up. Sagan might have gone solo, sagan might have been dropped. And with the ease of the pace on the velodrome, Sagan might have got the recovery he would need to beat GVA.

From last 2 weeks, there are just to many questions on what had Sagan left in the tank, both in Flanders and P-R. Weren't it for the fall/punctures, the race in Flanders could have been much more exciting, as Sagan and GVA would probably get to Gilber before Paterberg, and in Roubaix it could be battle on multiple fronts.

No prob.for Sagan.He beat in sprint last year Cav so he should be too much worried about profile.He is only worried who and how he will get to 200m before finishing line.

He can not do that.His wife's expenses are quiet high.He probably even thinking do some cooking TV shows to earn more cash for her.

Well if she is from village that is even worse.She discovery big city and lovely shops and her husband during a Sunday lunch and afternoon is working very hard in dust.

In contrast with Flanders I dont think he would won yesterday. But it is hard to predict if he would be spent before finale. In fact it was huge effort to attack (or was it counterattack?) and then puncture again. He spent another energy to bridge to Boonen group. It wasnt necessary because they joined togheter but he did not know at first. So after this two huge efforts he was spent at Carrefour. He is not superman after all. He lacks Greg endurance though. He is more explossive and powerfull but his endurance is not at Gregs level.

He was lucky to puncture when he attacked with 75 km to go but of course unlucky to puncture the second time.

As far as I know, she indeed comes from a small city. But she studied in Australia (I think), speaks German, English and French, runs a small company, ... .
So the stereotypes do not fit all that well here

I agree that one can discuss if Gilbert would have made it to the line, but how on earth would they catch him before the Paterberg when the gap is over 50 seconds near the top of the Kwaremont??

Catching GIlbert 2km before the finish line would have been more realistic.

That and riding around like an idiot at times. He could have easily won MSR if he didn't start sprinting from a ridiculous distance for example. Could also have won Omloop if he didn't kill himself for no particular reason.

+ he should realize that he should not show his cards in the meaningless races just to paint on his back the mark that is bigger that he is. His demonstration of power just before MSR was so stupid. If he was anonymous before
MSR and he attacked in Poggio probably everybody would have been so surprised that nobody would have followed or Kwiatko would have to do his turns. He is much much better in races where he is and average co - favorite.

But everybody knows how good he is whether he shows it or not. Except for 2014 and the spring of 2015 he has been an absolute monster throughout his career. I don't see the point of trying to hide that fact, really. People are not going to fall for it. They watch the Tour.

Additionally, he needs those hard rides as part of his training, I think.

He summed his season up very well yesterday. He lost MSR, he made a mistake in Flanders and he was unlucky yesterday (although I would say that he also made a mistake in MSR but I think he is to big of a sportsman to devaluate Kwiato's victory by saying that).
