Any rider who only had Sagan’s wins from solos or 2-up sprints (ie, 1 Worlds, Flanders and Roubaix, plus a few others) would be seen as one of the top riders of his generation. Sagan has that, and several group and bunch sprints (his other 2 WC titles and most of his GT stages) to his name.

According to tabloid roomers in Slovak paper yesterday Sagan apparently lost 7kg from 80 to 73kg. This was stated by a former professional cyclist Milan Dvorscik, the article speculates his break up with his wife and son might be a factor in all of this. The newspaper is usually Daily Mail style junk.
I have no idea what was his weight last year, but if 7kg is true then he may have targeted back end of spring classics rather then Belgian races, but I doubt it. Here is link in SK language:

I didn't even feel necessary to mention that Dvorscik fantasy about Sagan winning the Tour in 2-3 years. Though I would be curious to hear from Sagan himself if he lost that amount of weight and why, maybe because of illness or intentionally.

That loss of weight partly due to illness coincided with extra training at altitude instead of his usual early spring campaign, which would support some notion of being lighter with LBL in mind and now that 7kg being mentioned opens up more questions. If that was lost due to illness so quickly then no wonder why he lacks his usual acceleration and may not get his form back until summer

He did had that virus at a crucial period before the build-up to this classics season. He was out for a week or two. He apparently lost some weight because of it. That could explain not really being at his best in the last month. Even though he have made the final selection in these races, others have simply been stronger and better. I also think going to both TDU and San Juan might not have been ideal either in the start of the season.
He will be motivated today, but like he said in the interview... You need some luck in PR because it is unpredictable and a crash and mechanical could happen at any time. Hope he has a good race.

Hm, so this is the 2015 edition of Sagan - there at the front at the crucial moments, but bonking in the last 20km.
Clearly missing some kilos/endurance ... maybe that sickness, maybe different training. Personal issues probably do not help.
Still, he did all the right things, just the legs were not there ... unlike GVA.
Together with Gilbert and Politt, he contributed the most to the decisive split.

I think today's sudden turn-off was due to lack of sugar. Simple as that. He went from looking like his usual self which he hasn't done previously in this season to not being able to follow Lampaert on flat, un-cobbled roads.
I was very happy to see him do as well as he did most of the day. He exceeded my expectations but of course it's disappointing to see him die like that. Luckily he just managed to hang on to 5th.

For me Sagan is probably the most gifted rider in that last 10 years but not the best ,,,The best for me is the one who fights and fights and never gives up as well as having talent ...I feel sometimes Sagan has relied on his abilities and hasnt had to overcome adversity the same as some others. That it might have come too easy
I prefer Boonen & Gilbert, Contador & Cancelera as top riders in the last 10 /15year

Could not agree more. Despite his three WC wins, two monuments and countless stages and green jerseys he's still somewhat of an underachiever. How he hasn't won a single MSR despite being top favorite for most of the ones he's entered is beyond me.HelloDolly said:

I am not so sure how I should rate Sagan. Definitely think he has overachieved at the Worlds for example, and I don't think he's as gifted as Boonen or Cancellara on the cobbles, and he's also had weaker teams in those races, especially compared to Boonen.
Seeing him in the Ardennes should be very interesting, though I'm not quite sure riding Roubaix will help him. Still think he is too big for those races if I were to take Kwiatkowski as a reference.

I still Valverde has a better chance to win Flanders than Sagan will ever have to win LBL. As I said I do think Sagan can win Amstel if he targets it.
