According to Phil apparently people keep asking him why he returns to the Tour year after year...?

Hmmm If he only knew

there was another thread I posted on but this is a better place

Paul "Melting snow runs down hill to form tiny little lakes"

my read into this is that he actually does believe in science however one could read that he believes the universe is controlled by a supernatural force much like the peloton. .

It is a good think to email NBC and express your displeasure but do not be surprised when it does not go anywhere.

When Versus was absorbed into NBC David Micheals was the new man in charge. Full on Armstrong groupie. First thing he does is wack Fankie, who had been working the Tour for 9 years.

He likely believes a lot of the BS Phil spews

So Frankie is Bat Man and you must be Robin. or just a regular Joe?

After watching Leg-it's sorry defence of Wonderboy on that radio show last year the man has 0% credibility in my view and as such is a wholesale embarrassment to all cyclists in the UK.

For that reason alone I wont be watching ITV coverage of the TDF.

Still can't believe he thought that Bakelants was Irizar. Absolutely pathetic!

Phil manages to call the wrong winner two days in a row! Quite an achievement lol! Its getting pretty embarrassing now, he clearly doesnt follow the sport closely enough nowadays to give an accurate commentary. About time he was put out to grass

They took pity on him today though and didn't make him redo the commentary for the highlights show.

Apparently both Phil and Paul have a contract for the next three years to commentate the Tour. It's just absolutely ridiculous.

Go into the American wayback machine and check out the legend of sports commentator Howard Cosell (sp?) People hated that guy on voiceover. He had loud critics, but apparently that didn't harm ratings.

As long as they don't drive away viewers, they are a good bet.

Fortunately, the majority of TV's have volume control and most even have a mute button. Every TV I have seen also has the aiblity to change fromone channel to another.

So, the answer to anyone complaining about Phil and Paul is very simple to understand. Either change the channel or put them on mute.

I have them on mute as I am typing this.I am enjoying the video coverage of Stage 3 while also enjoying some music on my stereo. It's awesome!

I am not a fan of Justin Beiber. I much prefer The Clash. So, when I am listening to the radio and Bieber comes on, I change the station or put in a Clash CD. It works 100% of the time.

The only channel i can watch it on is itv4, i.e. phil ligett. Im not an expert so would like the comm to inform me who the riders are and whats happening in a reasonably accurate fashion

That info is provided by the TdF organization to encourage tourists to visit France. That is why some towns pay to be the start/finish or along the route.

no way

Hells yeah.

Say what you want about Phil getting riders mixed up (every day), calling the wrong winner in sprints (today), and other bike race stuff... his pal Paul sure knows his ruined fortresses and medieval nunneries.

No, the answer is for ITV to employ some competent commentators.

And when the alternative is Carlton Kirby, you have no alternative.

Phil's Tour so far:

Stage 1 - Wrongly says riders involved in the crash will lose time.
Stage 2 - Continues to misidentify the winner even when there's a close up of Bakelants' face after he's stopped at the finish.
Stage 3 - Says with all the authority in the world that Sagan got the win even when it was so close the riders themselves didn't know.

And they're just the errors in the last 5 minutes of racing.

If Phil can keep this going this has the potential to be one of the greatest sporting streaks of all time.

I'm almost disappointed that today's stage is a Team Time Trial because it will make it very difficult for him to **** up the finish. (But if anyone can do it ....)

Thats like saying (before last year) that if you don't like Armstrong having 7 tdf's you should just close your eyes when they show the TDF winners list.

Its not that P and P are bad commentators who know 3 riders in the entire peloton (though all that is true). Its that Phil Ligget is a lower form of life than most people you will find in maximum security penetentiaries.

Phil and Paul are one thing, but the Michelob Ultra commercial on NBC Sports is driving me insane. It's on at every commercial break and the volume is not set correctly on the commercial so it is about 30% louder than the rest of the programming. The song is horrible too. I remember they used Lance in this commercial over the past few years. Guess they had to find a new guy since Lance got the boot

I might add, while Phil and Paul were still saying it was Irizar winning Stage 2 (and yes, I know the official information they were being fed was wrong, but Irizar is a 10 year pro whose face they should probably recognise by now) Matt Keenan was tweeting that it was actually Bakelants.

That dude is fabulous at rider identification.

To be fair to Sherwin he correctly identified the rider as Bakelants before Phil decided the computer was right and decided it was Irizar. Also he suggested today that it was a little bit closer finish between sagan and gerrans than Phil seemed to think. So, on the last two stages, I think he can be cut some slack!
