Yeah he was dropping gerrans and valverde, real bad.

He was obviously going too early on the muur.

Btw what was his result in 2010 here? And how did he do in LBL that year?

Yeah...
He might've went too early, but Betancour went much earlier and finished far ahead of him.

Thought he was going to hit form after seeing him do well in last week but looks like BMC are going to finish with an 0 in the win category for the Ardennes Classics

Gilbert is carrying just that little bit extra weight imo.
Depending of how LBL is raced, that will not prevent him from winning the race.

He and Sagan both looked sluggish. At first I thought Gilbert was overgeared but he didn't have the legs. He did not finish in the top 10. It reminds a bit of his slow start to last season where he was at the front near the end but could not finish off the races. I can't see him winning Leige on Sunday. You don't improve that much in five days.

It took practically an entire season, but he finally got that win in the stripes.

BMC and Gilbert will take on a different approach next year after another disappointing season.

He will do Qatar and Oman instead of TDU, skip Omloop, then prepare in Tirreno for his first major goal Milan-Sanremo. From there all eyes set on Ardennes, which means no Ronde :(

That's a shame, but isn't it possible he'll do the Ronde anyways if he's in great form in M-SR?
After all it doesn't look like BMC will be that much stronger in the ardennes than in previous seasons and he might even stand a better chance of winning the Ronde than Liege when you look at the team he would have backing him in Vlaanderen compared to Liege.

He's likely to come up short in Liege if he does that. Gilbert 2011 is gone.

Ardennes are and will always be his playground, Ronde is all about Cancellara/Sagan/(maybe Tommeke).

He's come up to short anyway, with or without good preparation. The only way he will find his old form back, is to change his 'preparation'. That's all i say.

Because he was so inhumanly good back then?

No, because he had Ibarguen back then ;)

Anyway I expect him to improve this coming season, not much though, around 1500 CQ pointer.

Good that he is targeting MSR. He needs to at least win MSR or Ronde. It would be a shame if a rider with his caliber finishes with only 3 monument wins to his name. I hope he targets both MSR/Ronde. He has nothing left to win the Ardennes, and he himself acknowledged it in the Interview. With the Ronde being more hillier and Sagan probably a couple of years away from peak form, no better chance to win Ronde.

Gilbert will never repeat his 2011 season. That was a one off. He is expected to win classics so his 2013 season was mediocre. Sagan has jumped ahead of him and other riders have also improved so his competition is better.

Sagan has a lot to improve in the Hilly Classics. He was nowhere near Gilbert in 2013.

WCRR?
This year i think Sagan has won more sprints than Hilly races.

1. Rui Costa (Portugal) 7:25:44
2 Joaquim Rodriguez (Spain)
3 Alejandro Valverde (Spain) + 16
4 Vincenzo Nibali (Italy)
5 Andriy Grivko (Ukraine) + 31
6 Peter Sagan (Slovakia) + 34
7 Simon Clarke (Australia)
8 Maxim Iglinskiy (Kazakhstan)
9 Philippe Gilbert (Belgium)
10 Fabian Cancellara (Switzerland)

;)
