Well not working with Fuentes and innocent are two different things but you knew that already :)

If you trust him like the god he plays, his word is sufficient.

I think most important with Fuentes, Ferrari, Matschiner : which patients are still paying them for no more services at all?
Madrid skipped some payment deadlines, see what Fuentes did.

Fuentes is just coming out with more and more ridiculous statements

like this

You could use a doping substance for a worse end and it could have undesirable consequences...[but] I looked after my athletes’ health. I wanted to protect them from the immense danger that they were exposed to by the levels of training they did and by the intensity of their racing calendar.

I would not trust a word that comes out of his mouth

They will not ever squirm, they have never even ruffled a feather, this will go down as the biggest farce of a judicial decision as there are no decisions or conclusions, yet they all know exactly what is going on yet they put up this how of a case on how he treated his patients. As long as he did not put his patients at risk (which we know doping does) by clinical standards (note a M.A.S.H. unit is clinically safe or passes the standard) he will get off scott free and by the basis of the court case he is only there to establish if he put his patients at risk, nothing else (or they have covered this up somehow as I've yet to read about that). So that is one reason the judge has refused to have the list of names as that is not what this is about (even though the world thinks it is and feels it should be, so do I).

So its just a farce of a case with no possible justifiable/reasonable out come to be sought. I see it as a political statement by the judge, she will stay true to the omerata (of Spanish Court Judges) and not be bothered with the truth just the legalities of not ruining Span's Image.

That's some pretty obvious spin that relates directly to his case.

Charge: Your medical practices were extremely dangerous.
Answer: The riders schedules are extremely dangerous, they needed the dope to get through.

What he says is obvious BS but it doesn't make him out as a complete loose cannon with no credibility.

Fuentes recent arguments are weak and not at all credible. We have all heard them before of course. Whether or not he genuinely hold them or not is irrelevant since in the context of the case they are self-serving.

Scientifically, Fuentes is a clown, hard to believe that people swallow this tripe but one only has to look at the comments section of the cyclingnews story to marvel at the gullibility of people.

He may or may not be a loose cannone, but he certainly has zero credibility.

Zero credibility suggests if he starts naming clients you will dismiss everything he says in the way Landis, Tyler, Victor Conte etc. we're dismissed by many.

If he starts naming names then I won't unquestioningly believe everything he says but I'll be interested to hear the details if he can back anything up.

This is always an interesting issue. If Fuentes, Landis, etc. told me it was raining outside, then I'd still go check for myself.

IMHO, the "no credibility" argument is used as a way to try to suppress discussion about whatever facts are presented by these characters. Like you, I want to corroborate their claims and welcome the additional information.

I doubt this. From way out here, it looks like that's the 'nuclear option' if things don't go his way after the trial. I think he's using it to keep the State actors and the Pro sports people protecting his operations. Also, the trial will not stop him from doping athletes. He doesn't observe the rules now, why would they matter later?

August 2000 - Team Doctor fights back !

Clearing out some old CW magazines and saw this article underneath - "Tour Tests reveal drug use"

"Almost half the urine samples taken from riders at the Tour de France contained banned substances , according to tests carried out by the French Council for Prevention of Drug Use.........28 tests contained traces of corticecosteroids with 10 more containing races of salbutamol and terbutaline,...a further five samples contained both corticosteroids and salbutamol. Earlier last week the UCI had declared every test taken at the Tour to be negative and moved quickly to explain that small quantities of the substances found can be permitted in the rider produces a medical certificate. ......"

Then "Random test angers Olano" - I am sure it did, we don't need to read much further. The quote is good "the way they treated me made me ashamed of being a cyclist." Abraham, being ashamed of being a cyclist, now where has the last 20 years of farce put me ? Ashamed of being a human, ashamed of consuming oxygen, whilst watching cycle races ?

Then to our boy, the good doctor, what did he have to say in those heady days ?

"Team Doctor fights back"
"Kelme doctor Eufamiano Fuentes team doctor has defended the existence of medical certificates issued to riders permitting the use of certain banned substances. He argues that he felt it was normal that 43 per cent of the Tour peloton used restricted-use products.
"That figure would be strange in a short race, but not in one that is three weeks long," he said. "Cycling has a very high number of accidents, and you have a lot of injuries to cure in a three-week race. you have to use corticoids and local anaesthetics.
"If medical prescriptions were used simply to cover up doping, then maybe the percentage would be far higher."

"Fuentes went on to justify the certificates issued by the UCI for riders with high natural levels of testosterone or haematocrit: " For testosterone, you have to provide urine samples every three hours for three days. And as for naturally high haematocrit, my own level is 52 per cent."

OK so he told us it exactly straight - 43% was a low figure if certificates were simply a cover for doping. Got to give him that, he was not mincing his words. What do you reckon Eufemiano - about 85% or even 95% would be about right? These lads, they know far more about how to beat the tests than needing to use scabby tactics like a post dated medical certificate? Only complete bozzos, without proper medical guidance onto the right "program" have to stoop to that level ! Is that what you are telling us Doctor ?

Did he then just fail to finish off his final quote "And as for naturally high haematocrit , my own level is 52 per cent - when I have put in 2 bags of blood but I can get this to close on 60% with three ?

Other magazine highlights are "Dekker's dream" as he won the San Sebastian World Cup from Tchmil and Zabel. Leonardo Piepoli was winning the Tour of Burgos, Winn was second in Guadelope and closer to home Neil Martin won the Tom Simpson Memorial race. There is a one page advert for sister magazine - Cycle Sport, with a most apt header and quote - a whole cover shot of Lance , with "Tour de Lance" has him saying "I'll be back" two Tours is not enough for Armstrong. Sadly for all Lance fans, it wasn't the 3rd or the 4th or even the 7th that did it. If he had quit at even that point, then "god would still be in his heaven", but now see what looking for 8 did !

That Other US Postie Jamie Burrow gets a mention and "A fine time trial result helped Charly Wegelius (Mapie - oh the good times - Paris Roubaix 1, 2, 3) to 12th place overall in the Regio Tour of Germany". Meanwhile Yates was going to ride at the World Master Championships in Manchester.

How times move on ! So much important news I just had to read. So much paper, so much ink.

The Good Doctor should have stuck with football teams and Lance, even after the comeback it was still ok, it was just that loud-mouth Floyd, he should not have asked to enter the Tour of California, hiding in a hole, hated by everyone on the planet was so much better for him.

And people wonder why so many of us are bothered about the truth from the past. So much paper, so much ink, so many lies.

Hurrah... almost. Damn.

Maybe it was a typo, and he will be sentenced between 12 and 50 years.

Dave.
