And it's hardly surprising. If you're good at speed skating you'll be good at cycling, and especially time trials. It's the same way 10 years ago a large proportion of the UK cycling squad would have ended up being pushed towards rowing, the traditional places for people of that type of ability to go within the GB sporting squad, before the focus shifted to pushing pedals instead.

As for the women's farce, sorry, event, looks like Brennauer will be 2014's Women's It Depends What the Weather's Doing World Champion.

Looking forward to some actual racing soon.

Yes, many guys have a good chance to get a medal, i hope Malori will be able to get a third or second place. How hard is the last part with that little climb?

one thing i noticed with the womans racing and looking at the time trial today is how little chance they to do more than a short time trial during season, really think they need to look at getting more womans time trials into racing and build the standard.

Yup, same person. Czech Republic national champion in both, road race and TT from the years 2010, 2011 and 2013

Sablikova riding the RR is a joke. She is in good shape but she has NO experience other than riding few local races where she would ride away from all the amateurs.

She also just admitted that she just learned how to ride and climb out of the saddle.

They asked Jan Hirtl from the Etixx dev team to help her with technique etc. as she wants to go to summer Olympics in Rio therefore Czech Olympic Feds are doing their best to accommodate her wishes as a reward for all the gold medals from speed skating.

How much do the national cycling federations actually benifit from having a winner. To me it looks like the club teams benifit more getting a world champ on their team for a year.

If there's rain later on like all the other time trials, then Quaade or Chavanel or Barta should podium.

I am just putting it out there, I will be actively barracking against Gerrans winning. I would almost prefer Valverde to win.

It will also be interesting if there is a team vote on who leads Team Australia this year round.

They would be foolish to not have Gerrans as a protected rider. Besides Matthews, Clarke and Hayman would all vote for him.

And what if Gerrans won in an epic race, where all the riders attacked but just could not drop him? An event like M-SR he won on not just his mind, but his legs, he was along with Nibali the only one who could follow a flying Cancellara.

The way he wins races is sitting on peoples wheels the whole time. I do not respect a rider who does that. If you are not strong enough, then you wouldn't ride on the front but he clearly is decent enough to ride on the front in these races, so he should do so.
