Cranks V's hub?????

Is the power measured by power cranks all 'useful' power ie makes you move forward? when the strain gauges in power cranks distort some of the distortion could be in a direction that has no beneficial effect upon making the cranks go around but is 'strain' on the gauge none the less.

If this is correct is it more accurate to measure power at the rear hub?
