Predict the Top 5 GC in Tour de France

Page 20 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
1. Quintana
2. Froome
3. Nibali
4. Contador
5. Van Garderen

Should be a very exciting race between the big four (Alien, Predator, Shark and Nairo (any nicknames?)).
Froome will probably lead the race for many days but I think that on the last mountain stages Quintana will be stronger (Froome's form will drop a bit in the third week) and will take the lead by a small margin (maybe a minute). Vincenzo Nibali will be strong third not too far behind Quintana and Froome (2-3 minutes). Alberto will fight and should perform some spectacular long-range attack but unfortunately he won't have enough in tank after the Giro. Van Garderen to repeat his 5th place from last year with solid ride.

In my language (polish) because of his ancestry I call him "Indianin" but I'm not sure if english "Indian" is a proper word ;) (because he's from south america not north america). If it's ok then it could be Alien vs Predator vs Shark vs Indian :D

1. Nibali
2. Contador
3. Quintana

Not sure this is realistic, this is more how I'd like it to end up. I'm afraid though that Froome will win, he seems the strongest [although certainly not as strong as he was 2 years ago].

edit: I can count, I swear, I know what 5 means :D

So, 4. Froome, 5. Bardet

Interesting prediction; do you care to elaborate why you think Van Garderen will finish before Quintana? I'm really curious :)

I think that TJ prepared his Tour more seriously this year.
I've seen some report on Eurosport where Lemond was making an analysis on the parcours of the Tour and he met with Tj on the slopes, he was training along with some of the BMC guys + based on what i've seen in the Dauphiné + he seems like a nice guy :)

I've put Purito on the podium because he really wants (and i believe he deserves) a podium on the Tour.

Of course it's way to early to really say. If all come in top form:
1. AC
2. Froome
3. Quintana
4. Nibali
5. Pinot
There is no way that they all 4 are going to be in top 5. That's a more unlikely than the scenario that it's not on of the big 4 who is going to win.

You seem to be quite certain. Why is it not possible?

No one mentioned Riu Costa, is he not riding?

He's got no chance in GC. Great for 1 week tours and stages, not so great consistently for 3 week races
Normally I would 100% agree with you, but he is looking impressive on climbs this season (again :D ), but yea the consitency (recovery) is the main problem here probably.

I would like to see him aim polka dot or some epic stages :)

The Guardian now starting to hype the Tour by identifying its most important protagonists:

3 time triallers and a pure climber leading them

Contador/Froome - One bad day from either and it's over. Conti sentimental favourite cos he's got Nibali style cajones going for the double.
Froome/Contador - Froome has less 'hard' race days than Conti. But Froome's a wuss so he'll never try to double up. No cajones on Sky.
Quintana - He'll win some day and more.
Nibali - Outside favourite - He might pull an Ulrich and ride into into perfect peak form in July.
Pinot - I just like him a lot right now- he's racing very well these days and a good TDF might put him into top 5/10.

...But I don't know stink. I choose lottery numbers every week and nothing!

Moreover the picture of quintana is from last years vuelta ITT, where he crashed. I think it should be possible to pick a little bit better pictures. :p
