I live in the countryside of UK not on the set of the Sopranos, no private bookies here, Valverde is going to us the TDF as a training exercise, will attempt to win a mountain stage and eiher retire in week 3 or cruise to Top 25, its all about the Vuelta for him this year, he is getting old and knows its his last chance to win Vuelta, maybe I will become the bookie and accept all bets on him being in Top 10 as I know the money will be safe with me :)

OK, fair enough, I would like to bet he will be in top 10, I suppose that betting odds are double or nothing
how high bets you are willing to accept?
lets do tour de france watching really interesting :)

We all have our own ideas about the top 6. The 4 top contenders, pinot a TvG are allmost in every list. But what about the rest? Who will be filling in the last 4 slots of the top 10?

My guess is purito, bardet and valverde. Slot 10 can be anyone imo.
Any slot can by anyone.

Anyone who thinks that he can predict 9 out of 10 names in the final top10 GC correctly is deluding himself.

2nds-Majka, Porte, Landa, Martin...Team duties will still keep these guys back, great racers, but not their stage.

Not their stage? Plenty of finishes that suit Martin extremely well early on. Can't see Talansky doing better than him anyways.

I actually know a manager of betfred I will ask him for odds on Valverde not to be in Top 10, I know he would ring up head office but not sure they would accept a bet on something they dont have a book on. Cant wait for it too start now soooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited! D - 8 days !! Glued to the tv for 3 weeks, my missus will hate me as usual lol

It's not that they CAN'T win any of these stages. It's that it will not be their JOB to win these stages. Only way it happens for them if they get sent up the road in a break to make other teams chase and the break prevails (a role/mission I strongly advise). The team aspect in this Tour will be most crucial.

Just a side note, Tinkoff should have told Majka that he was not going, and then call him next Friday to get his but t up to Holland. Like, Where ARE you! LOL.

I'm so stoked for this Tour, I'm riding 150 km tomorrow with 2500 m of climbing. Got to get this energy out.

Can you not just lay it on Betfair? They have a top 6 market anyway, not very liquid yet though.
I will go for:
Nibali
Froome
Quintana
Bardet
TJvG

Contador to chuck it after getting dropped on the first mountain stages.

You do not know the man, it seems. Did he "chuck it" in 2011 or 2013?

Yes I do follow cycling. I know he is gutsy, and in the Vuelta 2012 he kept plugging away even when he was behind and it looked lost, but this time he is riding against fresh riders and the best group of GC riders I can remember for a long time, not Evans and the Schlecks.

He can also go for the Vuelta this year too, so if/when Nibali, Froome and Quintana all trot off the road in the first big mountain stages, I could imagine him deciding to rest up for the Vuelta. I personally expect a massive performance from Nibali, but that might fit better in another sub-forum.

Maybe I will be wrong, but that is my prediction.

i'm especially wondering how all favorites will do in this stage

I think like most rational people this is not a TDF for Contador but I cant see him giving up in week 1, maybe week 3? However I think he will finish the race but he will know by week 3 he can no longer win and may ease off 10%. As for the betfair chap, id rather have a straight odds for not being in top 10, will ask my friend in betfred today and let you know, failing that I know Mr Cycling man on here would probably love to have a man to man punt with me that Valverde makes/doesnt make Top 10, any crashes that result in retirement bets off is only fair?

If Valverde doesn't make the top 10, crashing out would be the most probable reason for that. Yet you are willing to do an even odds wager excluding that scenario from making you win the bet? If there was a convenient way to bet real money with strangers on the internet, I'd take out a loan for maximum leverage. :p

But you deserve credit for wanting to put your money where your mouth is, unlike many that profess to be confident in their forecasts.

yeah, i don't see him finishing outside the top 10 without a crash either. he has finished 13 Grand tours, 12 in the top 10, 10 in the top 5.

Serious Sam - As he has finished 13 GTs and 12 in the top 10, a bookie should give odds ( crashes bets off ) of at least 8-1 on Valverde not being in Top 10 and 1-3 on for being in Top 10. I would gladly whittle my odds down to 2-1 and raise the 1-3 up to evens for a fun bet between fellow lovers of cycling and the TDF. Not sure we are allowed to on here though?! In the face of the historic facts it would seem I have lost any marbles I had remaining but hey ho I'll give it a go, mind you I wouldnt accept more than a set amount against me!! Off to see my mate manager at 5pm in the shop so will know then lol :)

And Lotto Jumbo will probably want to cooperate, and Etixx as wel.
