Just because they don't bother with most of the flat stages or mountains used every freaking year (like the bl**dy Tourmalet) doesn't mean that teams don't go over the most important sections (see CSC in Overcoming, training on the Alpe)
It's still part of the prep, it just depends on the sections. When a new MTF or important descent is included you can bet that just about every team will pre-ride it. They will also check the condition of the cobbles and available lines through the sectors for the cobbled stage. I'll also bet that a good number of riders have been checking out the TT routes in Utrecht and Vannes - Plumelec.nayr497 said:sniper said:the interesting thing is that very few teams do reconnaissance.

How sad that pre-riding the course is no longer even part of the prep.
