It is the 2009 edition that doesnt really allow breakaways to succeed. 2010 is much more realistic in that regard, for example i won overall at Asturias with Juanjo Oroz with a 5 minute breakaway victory on 1st stage (because for some reason Geox couldnt be arsed to control the race until lead got to 10m) and then hung for dear life in the following 4 stages (won by 40 seconds over Cobo in the end).

Get PCMdaily 2011 database, guys did a fantastic job, and put the difficulty to hardest, and in my opinion you will have the best PCM edition ever. Its still a bit too easy to win races early in the season (until the classics start) but later on you really have to try hard and also be a bit lucky, especially if playing with a weaker team without many strong domestiques.

So you mean i should get the 2011-PCMdaily database for the 2009-Game and have some succeeding breakaways or you mean i buy the 2010-Game and use the 2011-PCMdaily database there? Or, 3rd option, you know the 2011-Game will be great and PCMdaily has already a database ready for this year?

I am a little confused now :confused::confused:

A little bit unrelated, but it's worth mentioning that Cyanide is releasing a game called Tour de France 2011 for XBOX360 and Playstation 3.

It's a completely new game, so it's not related to the previous XBOX Arcade and PSP games.

PCM.daily revealed a bunch of details about the game a couple of days ago: http://pcmdaily.com/news.php?readmore=639

There's also a few screenshots out - they are quite old, though: http://pcmdaily.com/photogallery.php?album_id=42&rowstart=12 (screens marked with "console")
cant wait to whip the tour on the ps3. Providing the store is up :p

-----
really hoping they fix the annoying bugs from 10' edition.
New engine or?

I mean 2010 game with 2011 PCMdaily DB.

Judging from past experiences, Cyanide releases half-baked products, so 2011 game will probably become enjoyable 6 months after release.

i officially hate this game.

i was first with contador going into the last stage of the tour (the parade across the Champs Élysées) and decided to sim it cus i was bored. all ok stage went well (or so i thought) i keep going and then i realize that contador was injured with a broken collar bone. i was like "uh what?" i decided to check the tour and my oh my didn't contador crash out of the race on the Champs Élysées . . . the stage i simulated <_<

So if i want to play this game (and would like to have it by the end of the week) is it best to buy the 2010 version and download some 2011 update?

Is there a 2011 version?

best way is to either download the 2009 or 2010 version and then download a 2010 or maybe a 2011 database(if available)

Good choice. The game is fun and to a certain point the most realistic. I was very sceptic in 2008 (my 1st time), but positive surprised once i fully understood the game.

... or you edit the database by yourself. I worked hard on it (2+ years), but it´s perfect now.

But if it´s the 1st time you play, you better follow the advice of others: Buy a old version, then download a good database. As i heard, the PCM-Daily seem to have the best ones.

I´ll keep on playing the 2009-Version, then follow the advice and buy the 2011-Version in coming winter when all bugs are eliminated. I won´t edit a database again, so i´ll go with PCM-Daily in the future.

any idea if the x4 cpu issues will be fixed in 11'?
2010 was so freakin buggy for me, pretty much the only game I have ever had a problem with on my pc.

anyone play this online? I tried it once (09') didn't like it much.

i played the 2010 version with a friend of mine plenty of times and a couple of times other friends joined us. we mostly did classics. i must say the game gets weird because only the person that hosts the server can change the speed of the game. but other then that it was pretty fun.

its pretty cool to do a monument with like 4 other friends.

That´s true. May it is because there are many small forums in the www about the PCM.

Anyway, i think Dekker Tifosi is the expert for PCM. So we shall keep this thread on Page 1. ;)

I think Hitch will like it. Since i play the game (2008) i got more interested in cycling, even tough clinic issues damaged cycling. That´s what the game does to you. :D

I know (almost) every rider and race around the next corner mostly because of PCM.

One day we shall make a competition (TdF?) with cycnews forum posters around the world. I never played it on the www. It must be fun.

that sounds like a plan tho i would prefer to do classics. stage races tend to get nasty because you need a lot of time with no interruptions to make it. but it can be done if people plan it right.

also when playing online the game has its own chat so you can talk while the race goes on and even join forces with others against a common enemy

the first PCM i played was the 2004 it wasn't even PCM back then lol

at the time my knowledge of cycling was very limited, i knew all the GT's and some smaller stage races and the worlds, when i started playing and realizing how important the classics were and the kind of riders competing there (since i mostly only knew stage races guys for the cobbles mostly would go unnoticed for me) i was amazed and that got me even more into cycling. thats when i started following the classics on eurosport as well.

oh the good'ol days with cunego having 84 at mountains and 82 at hills and a big pregression margin, and boonen being the best sprinter and classics rider at the same time. . . . used the play either with saeco or with telekom. always disliked the one dimensional US Postal team :p

oh best of all ofc popovych having like what? 81 or was it 83? in the mountains XD

p.s. and ofc the weirdest financial system ever that would make you go bankrupt easily (maybe not that easily but i was 14 back then so was always making silly stuff like training camps. . . )

That sounds like a great idea. I need to get the game first, but teaming up with someone agains others, sounds brilliant.

Problem would be finding a time that suits willing participants.

TDF Cav stages are the obvious choice:p

Wow. That sounds realistic, like when Millar was robbed in the 84(?) vuelta by the spanish teams.

Haha. I took the same road. Was big cycling fan in the 80s (Giro, TdF). Lost interest because of strange things happening (10+ years later i found out what i couldn´t describe back then). Back in 1997 (Ullrich). Out again (98-Festina), back in (1999 w/Ullrich´s Vuelta)... But never ever watched classics until... well 2009 (also Eurosport) after i bought the 2008-PCM. I was surprised how many races exist. Now i am "hooked". Knowing riders like Tanel Kangert. LOL

It goes NFL-Cycling-Cycling-Cycling-NFL and so on... oh, BTW, in between i also live a Life ;)

Yeah. But don´t underestimate the growing pains. In the beginning it seems very difficult. But with more experience it get´s easier to handle.

I still have some lacks (never won a GT, having troubles in TTT), but that might be coz i invested (Speak: wasted;)) too much time in editing the Database. The easiest part is ITT. That´s the first wins you´ll enjoy :)

I actually didn't find the game that difficult to do well on.
And I never used the training aka doping system.

im thinking we have our own GT one day :p but do a stage every couple days sort of thing.

And it wont be tour de france or giro, but a mixture.

Ronde one day, Zoncolan the next, a truly epic 21 days :p
And basically we just keep our own standings on a stage to stage basis. would be epic :p

Yeah i think it will be great. But i need much practise before, since it seems i am far behind in experience.

BTW, i can´t stay away from training camp , and also go full out in TT´s.... OMG, i think i have a little Lance in me. LOL. ;)

Training camp is teh worst :D

When I first got 09' it was the only time I used training camp (first version I played, didn't realise what would happen). I went into the Giro with LTD @ 81 mnts (he won) My entire team was good climbers thanks to the system.

However I did get a good story from that race, Reus who was about 74-75 climbing (lol training system) got in a massive breakaway, destroyed the group on the end of a massive climb, and won ahead of the peleton by over 15 minutes. Came 2nd or 3rd. That was a lot of fun (lost the pink on the last mountain stage.. to LTD haha)

I know. But heh, i can live with it having a Gewiss-Ballan-Like-Team. Again, little Lance in me speaking ;)

So it seems breakaways are possible. This topic was discussed already, but still am not sure how you guys do it. Is it only possible on extreme?

Ok, to my defense i played only three teams in my career: HTC, own made and Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli (i love that name, always have to write it in full letters :)).

So even after Clinic-Camp, never had a rider with higher than 79-Mountain (Scarponi)...

P.S.: Gerdemann (TdF) and Scarponi (Giro) finished 2nd for my all time best results.

I'm not too sure regarding 10' I played it not that much (actually 08' was my first edition I think), it crashed all the time for me. ANd I got into a rhythm of just FF the whole stage until the last 10km. I really disliked 10'.

But in older editions I had some degree of success. Sometimes the peleton just didn't care. I've also had breakaways work which I wasn'rt involved in, that sucked.
