Do you think Wiggo's really bothered? He's got the jersey, the knighthood, a sack load of cash and is a hero to the masses in the UK. The general view among the masses about Wiggo vs Froome in 2012 (if anyone's actually bothered) is that Wiggo would have dieselled his way to containing any losses to Froome in the mountains, smashed him in the ITTs and who cares who came second anyway?
General view?
Masses?
Based on what?
Its well established that the wiggins fans (surprise surprise, absolutely no bias here) think their original hero was stronger.
I even know some wiggins fans who believe that Froome was in no way hindered by wiggins at the 2011 Vuelta.
Some non wiggins fans may agree.
But to say its a general view?
Landis is far from on his own here. The most famous clip from that TDF was Froome dropping Wiggins like a stone and being told he had to drop back.
You think anyone who isn't extremely in love with bradley wiggins went "oh its ok wiggins is the best tter ever, he would have got it all back"?. No. People took note of that.
The Spanish press asked Contador if he thought Froome was stronger. Since when does the press ask if 2nd place was stronger. Contador said yes btw. I think that shows that people in one European country that held absolutely no stake in the discussion really did wonder whether the stronger guy won.
In Italy in the build up to the Giro people said wiggins would struggle to beat Nibali (who he absolutely crushed in the Tour), because Froome wasn't there.
And that's not my view btw. My view is that we don't know, and Wiggins may well have still held on. I do not underestimate how strong wiggins was in 2012, he was unreal.
But especially after Wiggins threw a hissy fit about Froome riding away, and especially after Froome destroyed the competition at the 2013 TDF in a manner not seen in a long time, a lot of people are convinced Froome was the stronger rider.
To try and pass off this wiggins fanboyism as a "general view of the masses", come on.
