I was lucky enough to be on the Mur 650m from the finish & Plat de Beille 15km from the finish. They were my first 2 TDF stages in person and I couldn't believe how good he looked both times, looked the winner of both that far out. Guess I have a new fave rider/I might be a lucky charm!

Will he have a better shot at Mende from the breakaway or with the GC guys?

IMO it's hard to say. I guess it depends on how the big gc teams ride the stage. If they are keeping the breakaway on a short leash then it would be best for him to stay with the gc guys...the breakaway would just use up his energy. If he went from a breakaway - it would have to be a bigger breakaway with strong riders in it. Honestly I can't predict which he will do if he is in fact targeting the stage. No doubt he'll weigh his options in the middle of the stage.

I'd say from the GC group. If there's one thing J-Rod knows exceptionally well and is experienced with, it's how to win a sprint from the GC group.

While I agree with the sprint from small group, it is unlikely tomorrow, unless he is part of the break that will stay away. Otherwise, I dont think that he is capable of holding Froomes wheel going all out the last few Kms.

I think it's almost certain he will try to get into the break. I don't see any GC-team chase the break (even Sky not). The breakaway will likely stay away. That's the reason he lost 10 minutes yesterday.

Caruso and Losada in the perfect break, but no Rodriguez? I must admit, I don't get his tactics here. He has his two best helpers up the road, but isn't there himself? Is trying to attack with Machado later or the stage on what?

I could be dragging dangerous guys with him. Like Majka or Martin. Even GC riders. It seems weird to me.

I don't get their tactics either.

Missed opportunity today, nobody chasing.J.Rod was looking tired though.I think Katusha played well,J.Rod probably wasn't good enough for a a new break after that monster effort.Still a lot of opportunities for him to get the triple.

I think the weather affects him. Still i would have liked to see him give it a shot in the breakaway. Could have won today.

Finally Kristoff is in his cave again.

Come on Purito, be in the breakaway tomorrow! There's a big chance you can win in Gap :)

Decent stage for him but what about stage 18,more complicated for the peloton to chase down the break.

Yes, stage 18 is a golden opportunity. But because there's a rest day after the Gap-stage, he should try tomorrow.

Really disappointed by Purito. At least you can try

Another chance for a third stage win gone.

It's all about the dots now. Waste to go in the attack today.

Still a waste if you win the stage? Or doesn't he stand a chance against Majka?

It's not just a matter of being strongest. Lot of tactics in such breaks. There's next to no points on offer and he will have to spend quite some energy to get in the break. Toussuire stage is much better for him. If he is the strongest in the break, he would be a likely winner. And get a lot of points.

Sure, the stage to La Toussuire suits him more. But the chance the big names are willing to fight for the stage there is imo much bigger then today's stage or tomorrow's. Nibali, Contador and Quintana will be looking for a stage win. And if there are only two left (La Toussuire and Alpe d'Huez), perhaps Astana and Movistar will control the race on stage 19.

And he tried to be in the break early today. So that's a strange thing if today's stage isn't interesting to target.

Toussuire is a break win imo. If he tried earlier, isn't it reasonable that he at some point stop trying and cut his losses (of energy)

If Nibali wanted a stage, the break would not survive today. Froome is targetting Alpe d'Huez, so Toussuire should be another day for the break

At least he tried. Didn't had the legs on Glandon. Looks like longer climbs are a bit too much for his age. Although Plateau de Beille was 15 km.

I think the chance he gets a stage win / polka dots is zero. At least he's got 2 stage wins out of this Tour.
