My prediction is that he'll get 4th in the Vuelta again. Valverde will beat him for 3rd, while Landa and someone else will fight for the win.

If you have a paper to sign :D

No, because his results this year showed podium was a realistic goal. Cycling isn't mathematics. Sometimes you just don't have it.

I agree with you, sometimes you just dont have it

... and some riders more often than others, especially those past their prime

BTW you do remind me of when I was a "young" man. I used to bet with my heart on my favorites teams losing money left and right. Then I changed my strategy and started to bet against my teams as it was a win-win situation. When my team lost, I made money, when they won I was happy they won and didnt mind the monetary loss. That strategy opened my eyes and I became more realistic about sports.

These days I dont gamble and when I play the CQ game, I split it between heart and head.

So pull your head out of the sand, open your eyes and be realistic about those you do care about. There will be less disappointment in your life.

I find it so funny people just don't look at the results. Winner of Pais Vasco, 3rd in LBL, 4th FW, 8th Dauphiné (best pre-race in his career) and dominant winner on Mur de Huy in the Tour.

Why can't i have the confidence in a good GC with these results?

I'm the first person to admit if someone is past his prime. But based on the results, it's nonsense to say he is. Perhaps today showed he's past his prime, perhaps it's just a bad day. I'm not going to yell in emotion and forget the facts.

Being still occasionally somewhat successful on selected stages or shorter races that are suited to your strength does not automatically translate into a podium GT contender, especially TdF where most guys are riding at their peak.

Its funny how some fans following his today's stage win that was very much suited to his characteristics are talking about TDF podium.

Just wait for tomorrow. Purito, along with many other "smaller" riders will lose big time and this silly talk about podium will be over for good. ::

Before the TdF started I considered Rodriguez to have a serious shot at the podium this year. Things to work out for him well though, if he doesn't loe too much in the first 9 days that is. Yes that's a problem for him, obviously.
We still don't know how he will do on the longer climbs as well, but today he showed us an oldschool Purito move and to be honest that was quite long ago as well.

Not sure why I reply with a serious comment though since your pretty much a troll anyways. A bit like Ryo's little cousin.

No, I'm not a troll and if your read my past posts in this thread you would notice that I have stated that Purito should focus on short uphill stages, just like today. He is good at those, no doubt about that but that does not make him a podium contender ... unless there is a carnage every day and another 5 or so "favorites" will crash out.

Top 10 if he is lucky ...

Again, I still do accept avatar bets for Purito podium GC ::

Well, I think I do deserve some apologies from all the fanboys after taking some heat for being skeptic or rather realistic about his "Podium" ambitions ::

It's more about the way you communicate than if you are right or wrong. I have absolutely no problem if someone disagrees with me, but roll-eyeing and ridiculing is more for kids.

I like your style. Offense is the best defense! A few happy faces for a bitter man :D :D :D :D :D

Hunger knock apparently, I'm about 70% chance of believing him as he has been good recently, but with his experience I don't expect him to do something like this.

Well, we shall all see tomorrow.

If he is back to normal, it was not a hunger knock as "usually" it takes at least 24 hours to replenish your glycogen levels once you depleted them completely and may take even longer for some individuals.

Since it is even less than 24h between the end of the stage and start of the new stage he should be very weak again for couple of more days.

If he is tomorrow riding like the bonk never happened, we all know that he is full of crap and his performance was more likely related to his age such as fatigue and slower recovery.

Tomorrow is another day for nearly every rider after today's carnage. Many Tour hopes and aspirations were whacked over the fence and tomorrows stage will be very enlightening. :D

He's always quite bad after a rest day. And he sometimes really suffers in the heat too. Too bad there is no rain and lower temperatures. That would favour him.

Rodriguez is never good on the first real climbs he rides, whether it be at the start of the season, or in a GT. The Vuelta is the exception though.

Let's hope for a stage win in Mende or the climber's jersey.

He should go home. He's sick, or just has horrible shape. This is useluss and just painful to watch. :(

It looked so good with that stage win on the Mur. At least he has got something out of this Tour.

Seems like he may have really bonked yesterday and as I said, it really does take time to get your glycogen levels back so it may take a few more days. 24-72 hours is the norm depending on your body and how deep he went.

He may be OK next week ...

And once again, cycling is unpredictable.

I predict a 6 minutes loss for Froome on the stage to La Toussuire and Contador to win the Tour! :)

 I think it will go the other away :p

Froome fan?

I have a long list of riders.Froome's on it,Contador not

Then i predict Quintana to win the Tour ;)

Now that would be quite an achievement, but he's not gonna do it with attacks like this.Hopefully 3rd week he'll be better.

Good ride from Purito today :)

If he can win on Mende or in the Alps it will be a pretty decent TDF despite no podium. Actually, I'd rather have him get three stage wins than another podium. :p
