Yesterday Purito won a French criterium in Quillan, in front of Geniez and Bouhanni.

He shows he's in super shape. Be prepared ;)

J.Rod looks to be ready but i'm not confident about the team.Katusha is having all sort of problems lately:Caruso doping issue,Trofimov surprise move to Tinkoff,Silin drinking episode.Moreno might pursue his own interest as he's leaving the team.

Purito is not in the position he needs a strong team. He just has to follow the best guys, and Sky/Astana.

The current situation would be more problematic in 2012/2013, when he really was one of the big favorites to win Giro/Vuelta.

We'll see but i think the team weakness will hurt him on the long run.
Come on,more optimism he can challenge this year :D

The problem for riders like Purito is that for them the team is more important than for other gt riders. Nibali, Contador, ... are riders who can also ride at a high pace for a long time and if they are isolated they can often minimize the damage. Purito is extremely punchy, and he is actually only really good in riding very fast for a small distance. Think about 2012. He lost the vuelta to Alberto in one of the easier mountain stages because he was isolated and behind Contador pretty early, and he couldn't ride the final climb at the same high pace as AC although he was generally in the better shape.
So if his team isnt in a decent shape it would probably be better for him to get the leaders jersey in the third week. However if he wants to win the vuelta he has to take it pretty early because there are only downhill finishes and a TT in the last week, so he will rather loose than get time there.
Conclusion: His team is a huge problem.

He lost 30 sec max on the final climb to Contador, not more. Lost major time in the flat between last and penultimate climb. He can ride pace alright on the climbs, but on the flat he needs strong team

He's got the form to beat Bala on the steep summit finishes. Now he knows, so i expect at least one stage win in this Vuelta.

Too bad it didn't come today :(

I'd say he has a very good chance to win stage 9.

Big favorite there. Stage 6 suits him too. And even stage 4 is a chance.

He looked good today, gaining time on all other contenders. Especially good news that he distanced Valverde. And you're right velolover Moreno was good too, so he'll be very useful.

Hopefully this is the first step towards the podium, we'll have to wait for the upcoming stages to see if he can do it though, but I believe he can.

I rather win two stages and finish 6th, then finish 3rd without a victory.

It's all about winning now at his stage of his career.

But finishing 3rd and winning two stages would be the most ideal outcome :D

Agreed I would love to see him win a couple of stages, get to 10 vuelta stage wins would be quite an achievement. But it would be great to see him on a podium again, but stage wins might be better than another minor podium position.
Podium + 1 stage would be good
If he doesn't reach the podium he'll have to win 2 stages for this to be a successful Vuelta in my opinion.

Well podium is way better than 2 stages, who do you think had a better TDF, Purito or Valverde?

Valverde had never reached the podium in the Tour, so that was quite an achievement.

But Purito already podiumed al the GT's. So another podium place is just meaningless imo, if you don't win anything.

If you finish 6th, but winning two stages, you also are three weeks competitive, just like finishing 3rd without any stage wins. But eventually wins are important, minor places aren't. Even Valverde's podium place in the end isn't that interesting, just like Purito's podium place in 2013.

To all the people who have doubts about Purito: only Caminito stage was a tipical Murito-finish.

Cumbre stage will be ideal for his first stage win. And last km of tommorow's climb is also really steep. So i will continue to cheer, and still expect some really good stuff from Purito :)

Purito just rode a good final climb. The level was extremely high. He dropped Bala, Nairo, Aru, Majka by more then 10 seconds.

However, two riders where just a bit better. Although i think he went a little bit too early, more then 300 meters to go. Perhaps he could have won if he waited a little bit longer. Also the many attacks of Froome perhaps dwelled him out a little. But props to Dumoulin, he deserved the stage.

I hope he can still win a stage. But podium will be almost impossible with that TT. The rain however in the coming days is a good thing.

Well after today stage it surely looks like i overestimated the 2 veterans abilities.Despite the good position in the GC it will be very hard for either of them to podium this, not even considering winning it anymore.I still hope at least J.Rod will grab a stage win.
