Purito - Joaquim Rodriguez thread

It's always a good day when Purito does well, and I was so pleased to see him up there today. I doubt he can win, but I'd like to see him challenge. He's always a good protagonist. Seeing him and Vvde attack on the descent today was great stuff.

I haven't checked the maps, but aren't there two downhill finishes to go, I'm not sure how technical they are. Purito can definitely look to those stages to gain some time

I have no idea what you're talking about. He was great today, far better than most of his rivals, and now has a very good chance at winning the Vuelta.

With a 40k time trial to come? No freakin' chance. Then both Aru and Dumoulin will have to crack big time.

And he looks like he is having fun while riding, that's not how you win a GT. His way of riding is often based on intuition and gut feeling instead of being more calculating and tactical like Valverde. That's why he never has won something really big, even when he was the strongest rider in the race.

Rodriguez seems to be a real fan of cycling. If he wasn't a pro he'd probably spam a forum like this. Always rooted for him and would love him to win something big. Hated how he lost the Giro 2012. He has a chance for this Vuelta but it's a slim one.
Aru is the favorite for this unless the fish drowns on land.

I get frustrated when I post about Purito because for me he could have won more. At his best he was unbeatable on steep climbs . He just seemed to be missing that extra ingredient that the likes of Bertie, Froome,
Armstrong etc have. He has no chance of winning this tour and lets be honest he wheel sucked his way up yesterday. He will lose chunks of time but should keep fighting.

Best from the TDF guys Not good enough to win this stage but i can't complain as Landa won it.

Best from the tdf guys yes, but he didnt try to ride a GC in France.
You can see a difference between the riders that did and did not.

Losing the giro 2012 was him own bloody fault. God I can hate him for that, but I don't since I love him.

Valverde was the best example of someone who rode a GT with his heart, and not with his head. Always fighting, sprinting and be up there with the best, every single stage. The past years he's become more regular, but i doubt he's tactical wiser.

Purito always rides his GC's quite tactical. Vuelta 2012 is an good example. In the past he just exploded a couple of times due to a bad day. I'ts not a natural born GC rider like Froome, Quintana, Aru etc...

And he won 2 monuments. That's something big. And in the Worlds he was screwed by his own teammate.

+1 I so wanted him to win the Giro 2012. It's always a good day when Purito is winning .

Be real. Last year he was 16 seconds faster then Aru in a mainly flat TT.

Somewhere between 30-50 seconds. Or on par.

I really hope he manages to win this Vuelta. Purito has an extremely slight advantage on Aru in head to head TTs, if that means anything.

Closer to 1, with 3-4 on Dumoulin and 1.30 on Majka would be my guess

Yup, definitely the Purito of old. Wouldn't go out of his comfort zone even slightly, not even to shake off one of his biggest rivals, who's still very much within striking distance for the ITT as a result.
