Too bad the overall looks out of his reach. He deserves a GT victory.

Maybe to you, to me it certainly doesn't look like that!
Hard to believe he can make comfortable buffer before the itt with his time trialing pedigree.

He's not as bad as he used to be, and if hes recovering better than aru, he can take time on him and maybe protect it in the tt. Its not over until they reach madrid

Wut? He is the 2nd biggest favorite at this point.

I dont like Aru, neither do I want Tom D to win. I have been mad at Rodriguez MANY times through the years and you cant deny greatness, so I badly hope he wins know that Valv and Nairo is out of contention. Hope him and Moreno will come out blasting, but knowing Joaquin and especially Moreno #katushatactics, they probably wont take the initiative before Alba. But hey, I hope Purito has learned through the years. He should've

He wil win. Got a true mastermind in the car (not that hack from Derbyshire) plus nobody with cojones big enough to pull a Fuente Dé on him.

... or simply no one who is as good as Contador. You can have all the cojones in the world, but it really doesnt matter if you cant back it up

Purito can certainly gain some bonus seconds along the way (stages 18 and 20), if the peloton decides to control those stages, and Movistar probably will, to give Valverde a chance of winning them.
Purito could win the stage into Avila, so he could potentially gain as much as 30 secs or more on those 3 stages.

That was a great ride today, He turned the clock back. Its a shame his TT is so weak. Still a bit of a way to go but my usual feelings about Purito and his inability to win a big GT have not changed. Focus. No jokes, no chat just ride hard, pay attention. [remember Contador]
You can be nice. if you win.

I'd love to see him get another great victory at Alba.

Btw, was he using a bigger gear in the final? He was "Frooming" up Sotres! His acceleration looked less swinging and punchy, but it was even more effective.

Finally saw the stage after seeing the result at 3am this morning. That was a fantastic ride by Rodriguez, showing the young boys how it's done on the steep slopes. Glad he got his stage win and the podium is looking more and more likely, but today will be the moment of truth.

IMO he'll be on par with Aru and Majka in the TT and Dumoulin will fade so today he has to gain time.

This.

It is possible. He knows this is HIS chance to win a GT. I think he will take some risk to do it.

Really disappointing today. If he didn't have the legs there's not much else he could do, but he needed more than a second on Aru I fear.

I actually think the Avila finish suits dumoulin just as well as Purito, maybe even more. It's a short power climb, but not super steep. It plays right up to Dumoulin's alley

I'd love to see the profile of that small climb. From what I've heard, it has a cobbled section with a medieval fortress in the background.

I hope it's true. Seeing the GC guys riding on cobbles would make my day!

with just the mythical Paramera before, there may be people other than Rodriguez capable of contesting the finish
