The gap is debatable because Nibali was in there too. What I find odd is the bonus sprint being annulled.

You mean early on in the stage? That was because of the crashes. Otherwise the remnants of the breakaway had already finished. For mine there is a clear gap over Nibali by only a second though.

Was the bunch waiting for those who had crashed, making it a Cancellara sprint? If so, I suppose it makes sense.

Why is he called Purito - because he is small and clean, or?

long history, Purito doesn't come from Puro like pure in english, it comes from little "puro", so "puro" is also in spanish a cigar, an Habanos for example.

The story comes when he arrives as a neo-pro to ONCE with big "fishes" like Jalabert, Olano or Beloki in the team. In a winter camp, training, he attacks and ends on the summit as if he would be smoking a cigar, waiting for the rest of teammates... after laughting quite a lot he is named "Purito" by the rest of the team until now...

this anectdot shows also a bit his personality, which is very open, friendly and funny... he is always telling jokes and he always ends up around the figure of Karpets... so it must be funny in Katusha

Can 'Purito' hold on to the red jersey on Wednesday's Vuelta's ITT of 46 km, against his attackers or take it of ?

Everybody is saying Purito will be blown away by Nibali cause of the TT results I posted here above, true ?

Now can you compare ?

Needs Tchmil, to pull an old Sovjet rabbit from the hat ?

He gave it his all for 3 days to get 1 second on the gc to get the red and next day blew up on the climb.

Its quite ironic that since then he started to just do his own pace on the climbs and now hes back in the red. Also looks like his team wont even have to defend it.

Update ? Mon - Sep 13 5:28 PM

Well Hitch Purito is shouting out loud, that he will break the bloody azzuri his neck the 2 day's after, in the monster stage ...

After tomorrow’s rest day there will be a 46km time trial on Wednesday; this will be followed by two flat, transitional stages, followed by Saturday’s big rendezvous up to the 2247m Bola del Mundo on Saturday.

Purito Rodrigues might have a point here, if Nibali taps his battery in the ITT to much then ?

I have my Finders crossed for Rodriguez and hopefully he will only loose 1min 30 seconds to Nibali...The vuelta is a two horse race between Nibali and Rodriguez.Go Purito go.

considering that if Purito wins in Bola will have an extra 20' + I think only in the last 500 meters can have 30/35 seconds it makes: 55 seconds only in one acceleration...

If Purito's lost is only 1.30, he can win the vuelta.

Nibali is not Cancellera neither

There's to keep in mind that we donno yet how they did recover, both Nibali and Rodriguez; for example Nibali cracked yesterday in the last 800metres or so.

Plus it's the day after the rest day; some guys feel much better, some guys not.

After being one of the riders with the most competitive kms this year, Purito will go to Australia for another exhausting trip. Pretty amazing.

Look's like the Bola del Mundo stage is going to be mighty decisive. If push comes to shove Purito will help Mosquera, otherwise the media will crucify him. But, before that, Xacobeo-Galicia have to control the race to ensure Ezequiel can come in # 1 and get the 20 second time bonus.

I think it can be done. I think the Spaniard can do it. Francesco is not that strong and he will be attacked left and right up the Bola del Mundo. If Cotobello gave him problems... he's certainly not going to enjoy kilometers 18 to 22 of the Bola del Mundo climb. Any signs of weakness and he will be "skinned" alive.
