Right, it's time for me to finish our little trip to southern Argentina, and it's time to finish it off with probably the hardest stage of the eight, with a lot of climbing and a summit finish where the climbers can try to pull back the time they inevitably lost in the time trial and on the dirt roads to El Maitén.

Stage 8: Villa Catedral - San Carlos de Bariloche (Cerro Otto), 166km

Starting at the base camp of Argentina's most well-known ski resort, Cerro Catedral, the riders will head down to Perito Moreno on the first of eight difficult circuits with a medium-length climb. At the end of these circuits the riders will take a short flat lakeside road into Bariloche itself, before turning inland to climb up to Cerro Otto, itself another ski resort in the area, but also playing host to South America's most notable Nordic skiing and biathlon facilities. The climb is not as tough as La Hoya, but the riders will have much more climbing in their legs when they get there. It is here that the overall victory will be fought out in style.

Climbs:

Mirador Cerro Catedral (cat.2) 4,8km @ 5,5%

Nice done, i love it!

About this last stage just two things: 1) the loop climb is on the Cerro Chico (Catedral is the one to the west) 2) Cerro Otto is unpaved and almost imposible to climb with a road bike.

Here some personal shots ;)

Thanks for the correction on Chico (I knew Catedral was the one to the West, but for some reason images kept saying that the one to the east was Mirador Cerro Catedral, so I assumed it was some kind of lookout post).

Otto was supposedly being put forward to be paved recently, same as how La Hoya has been and much of Siete Lagos has been, hence why I decided on it. Obviously, like many of the other projects to modernise facilities and infrastructure in the area, the volcanic ash problem is kind of getting in the way, however. Nevertheless - it's good to have as a proposal for the future!

That's the main problem (for climbers ): big montains but only a few propper road climbs.

You give me good news about the Hoya tarmac, hope Otto will be ready soon.

STAGE 9 Benevento - Termoli 183 Kms
After the first MTF, the peloton goes back to the Adriatic sea without too many problems. The only proper hill is the climb to Monte Rosso is hard, but far from the finish. The sprinters will have to deserve this one, though

STAGE 10 Pescara - Montelupone 212 Kms
tricky stage, with a few minor climbs before the Madonnella Di Pitino and Passo Della Cappella, the two climbs on sterrato that will feature the (real) Giro D'Italia next year. The route of the final kms is the very same of next year's stage, but it ends on the Muro di Montelupone instead of going further, making higher chances of seeing some guy attacking on the sterrato.

STAGE 13 Pordenone - Selva Di Val Gardena 190 Kms
And here comes the Dolomites!
105 kms of false flat, but in the last 85 there are none.
Passo Duran 12.5 @ 7.9%
Forcella Staulanza 12.6 @ 6.7%
Passo Fedaia 14.1 @ 7.5%
Passo Sella 11.4 @ 6.6%

STAGE 14 Selva Di Val Gardena - Bolzano 190 Kms
After a hard day in the saddle, no rest for the peloton. The gc guys could take a breath though, as this stage favours the breakaway and should provide little to the gc. Someone could try anyway on the colossal Passo Pennes.
Passo Gardena 11 @ 5%
Passo Delle Erbe 15.2 @ 6.1%
Passo Pennes 14.5 @ 8.7%
Auna Di Sopra 8.1 @ 8%

STAGE 15 Bolzano - Aprica 237 Kms
Yes, it is the queen stage. And yes, it is 237 Kms long.....And no, it is not a MTF.
Let's go, then.
First, there's the Passo Della Mendola, just to wear off the legs and create a good breakaway.
After that, a long ascending false flat leading the riders to the classic Passo Del Tonale and the legendary Passo Di Gavia (Cima Coppi of this Giro). But this is just the first 172 kms
canvasxp.png

After reaching Bormio, the peloton will go down until Mazzo Di Valtellina, a town that is known to everyone who loves cycling. There starts the Passo Del Mortirolo.
After this, the peloton (or maybe the survivors) will get, as usual, to Edolo, where they could expect the classic climb to Aprica.
Wrong.
This time they'll use a climb that many cycling fans demand. Monte Padrio
padrio.png

After this thing, the path is clear and a gentle descent will deliver the riders to Aprica.
Final 65 kms.

Mendola 14.8 @ 6.5%
Tonale 15.2 @ 6%
Gavia 17.3 @ 7.9%
Mortirolo 12.4 @ 10.5%
Monte Padrio 9.4 @ 9.8%

Whats going on man. This is some weak *** Giro. 6% 7% what is this, the Eneco Tour?

Theres not a single climb that I see here thats harder than Alpe d huez.

Edit: this Passo Pennes in your next post is much better.

I suspect that between that and totally flat stages, you thought "I'll put Passo Fedaia in by way of apology, since Libertine continually gushes about its greatness"...

Fedaia was the weakest of the 3 in 15 this year. A lull between the attacks of Giau and the insanity of Gardeccia.

Tomorrow I'll post the third week

Third week:
Stage 16 Pont St.Martin - Borgo San Dalmazzo HIGH ****
Stage 17 Savona - Pisa FLAT **
Stage 18 Poggibonsi - Montalcino MEDIUM *****
Stage 19 Chiusi - Orvieto ITT *****
Stage 20 Rieti - Passo Lanciano MTF *****
Stage 21 Avezzano - Roma FLAT *

I dont have Grand ambitions for mega races a grand Tour or for bettering existing Grand Tour routes.

I just want to play around with a small but classic race.

Giro del Trentino.

So here is my Giro Trentino ( stages might not be limited to Trentino, and might not be in a logical order logistically).

Stage 1 and 4 are not in Trentino. Stage 2 only ends in it while stage 3 starts from it.
It's more like a "Giro of north-eastern alps"

I did say that the stages probably werent in Trentino:p

I would have gone way over to Finnestre too if the only stage profile that exists of that mountain didnt have 200km of flat before it.

Sprinters may hate you, but I sure don't. The La Mure finish is good, and the French Basque stage has epic written all over it.

Thanks. I thought that a climb like this is too good to miss

Nice job, using few of the usual climbs. Only 21km from the top of Grand Colombier too, what happened to 42km!?

The finish is in Culoz. I wanted to have the Grand-Colombier as the final climb so it was mostly about choosing which is the safest side to descend.
