BTW, where the hell were the Russians?
Russia is not at the Olympics, officially at least.

Vino also had to change to a normal team kit, so didn't get to race in this:MCipollini-Giordana made Nicole Cooke a special Olympic jersey in 2010, all white with the Olympic rings above the sponsor logos, and gold piping at the waist and arms. The UCI banned it before she could turn a pedal in anger in it.
I don't know if it has been said but this was only Ecuador's third Olympic medal EVER. Second gold.
So Van Aert should counter every attack that would ensue with a snail pace? Keeping the pace high, within his limits, was clearly the best tactic.Frankly I am baffled why Belgium was drilling the bottom of the climb in the first place. They should have just snail paced it. Massive tactical blunder IMO
Gotta gamble to win. What, riding the race with a sh!ty attitude and still walking away with nothing?
Three very exciting riders on the podium. Very nice.
And of course BBC don't show that podium. That, and cutting to a 5 min interview with Cav as the race exploded on Mikuni Pass, gave off a strong impression that BBC don't understand or don't care about cycling. What's the point in showing all these events if you completely disrespect them.
And the other 2 medals were won by the same guyI don't know if it has been said but this was only Ecuador's third Olympic medal EVER. Second gold.
I get that not everyone was capable of doing something, but Woods, Pogacar and a couple of others were, yet all they did was disrupt the chase of CarapazGotta gamble to win.
Also, do you actually think these guys were all sitting on great legs by the end? They basically lost time any time someone other than Van Aert took a turn.

I’m not blaming carapaz whatsoever, but guys like Mollema, Gaudu, yates, Woods… not pulling through once for gold but good enough to attack for silver. In the real world also, it is the same thing. people who have worked the most dont get the credit while people who are the face of the project get the maximum publicity.
Agree on all points but 6. Not keeping the pace high, would have resulted in more attacks, which would have been worse for him.Okaayyy
- Van Aert best man in the race no doubt about it.
- Pogacar simply lacked the edge he had in the Tour de France. Might argue he peaked too early in the Tour
- Tour de France riders dominated the race. Most glaring in Roglic who wasn't close on Mikuni and wasn't even in the 2nd/3rd group behind.
- Evenepoel was disappointing compared to expectations. He would have made all the difference for Van Aert.
- McNulty made the winning move and in the end got *** all for it. Extremely bitter result for him
- I'm genuinely baffled by Belgium blowing up the race on Mikuni. They isolated Van Aert there.
- Olympic Gold in the end is unworthy of Vincenzo Nibali.
Most of them tried solo for 3rd place, which is probably the most you can hope for. Most of them could not win anything as Carapaz and McNulty got 20s. They were lucky McNulty even exploded. And there was not only Van Aert to work over. If it goes to a group sprint you're probably sprinting for 3rd at best vs Van Aert and Pogacar.I get that not everyone was capable of doing something, but Woods, Pogacar and a couple of others were, yet all they did was disrupt the chase of Carapaz
Makes me a bit sad to think we won't have a similar Olympic course for at least a decade.
Woods tried in fairness. Gaudu and particularly Yates came across as pure wheel suckers. I felt sick when I suddenly saw Yates well able to wind up a sprintI’m not blaming carapaz whatsoever, but guys like Mollema, Gaudu, yates, Woods… not pulling through once for gold but good enough to attack for silver.
The only place Remco worked hard was on the ITT course. Today was a scouting mission but in all seriousness van Aert looks good for gold on Wednesday.
Isn't Los Angeles pretty hilly?Em 11 years
.Olympics are in 3, 7 and 11 years time
Honestly, WvA doesn’t need freshness. He needs training and racing and seems to cope very well with a huge load of both. I expect him as top favourite for the tt, as his weaker point would be the amount of altitudinal meters (and he coped very well with that today). Not sure. Today he left it all on the road. There may be fresher legs out there come Wednesday.
He takes a little getting used to but there's something hilarious about Roglic, you just get the impression he's taking the piss in every interview.
Saying he had a bit of cramp in the back so struggled but looked fresh, should be ok for the tt you would think?
Yes, but I think Bernal would've needed to ride the Tour to be there at the pointy end. For example I'm pretty sure I haven't seen Almeida all dayAgree on all points but 6. Not keeping the pace high, would have resulted in more attacks, which would have been worse for him.
As for point 3, the two current best riders in the world were in the TDF, the best rider of the Giro wasn't here.
