I only started watching the last 5 laps. Do you know why Van Aert was so far back today?

Just a bad day today. On Sporza they asked they asked his DS, who said Van Aert wasn't 100% this week, so apparently they kind of expected it, but he didn't explain what exactly was going on, he just said Van Aert hadn't been 100% lately.

Okay. Thanks!
Though this week is packed with CX's so he/they might be bluffing and saving himself.

I dunno. Just watching though he didn't look like his usual self. At times it looked like he might fight for 4th and then he'd drop a few places again....good job bluffing if it was that.

Ugh, finally a race Pauwels could win, but that manoervre by Van Der Poel kills his chances. Van Der Haar sometimes seems content with annoying other riders at unnecessary places. Still, great race!

What move? The stream broke on me so I couldn't watch the race from the first corner of the first lap.

A great move just before a U-turn by VDP to get past Pauwels at a critical point near the end. Disc brake-only move, likely.

Great race from Meeusen in Loenhout, although the peloton didn't go full gas. A fully deserved victory, while the others probably wait for the disastrous parcours in Baal.

Why is it disatrous parcours in Baal. Azencross is only a cx course when its muddy. Some of the riders, and even Sporza described it as a BMX Crit.

Jeeez. Niels should stop the brown Leffe. :D

Nice to see Van Aert back, it's been a while. Some mud back, it's been an even longer while.

However I have to say that as much as I like Mathieu, going on a training session the day of Baal is not very fair to both opponents and organizers. Sad choice of his :(

This being said, that was the best cycling race of the year so far. And by a country mile! It should be remembered back in October when we do the polls. :p

Haven't watched the race yet so didn't know this. That is a shame...I want to see a good duel between them. Namur is the only one I've seen this season.

By disastrous I meant a very hard parcours (the ground there). It's known that Baal is hard and a little rain can turn it even more difficult.

You've forgotten over half the races. Sanne Cant just won her 7th straight Belgian senior CX title. Compton won her 12th straight US CX title. I can't think of a streak at national level in any sport that equals 12 straight. And Cant is arguably just starting. She has 7 senior titles at the same age that Compton won her first.

Van der Poel just smashed the other riders in the final World Cup race in Hoogerheide.

Alone in the front from the first to the last lap, no one could match him.

That's four straight wins in the World Cup!

Pretty excited to next weekend World Championships in Heusden-Zolder.

I read it was because he didn't get selected for the Worlds by the Belgian coach.

Yes. He wasn't selected even though he's a better rider than Merlier who was selected. Merlier only got in cause he's Van Aert's teammate.

Ah, that makes sense, thanks!
Great race today, MVDP looked sublime. Looking forward to next weekend, should be a great battle between him and Van Aert, though I'd love to see Nys bow out with a win.

Reportedly Katy Compton had trouble clipping into her pedal at the start. I heard this several times before. Why? Does she need to try different pedals?

That was such an impressive win for Thalita de Jong, chased back to the front group for 25 minutes after a terrible start and to then ride away like that ... :)

Yep, good race from her. Although if it hadn't been for the that stumble on the bank just after the pits, I think it would have been a battle between De Jong and Harris for the win.

Brilliant race by Richards in the U23 womens race, as well as the first win of the day for the Netherlands, with Jens Dekker.

I kept away from the results and just watched the whole thing. Amazing race! I was on the edge of my seat with those 6 riders together in the last lap. Never been a big Cant fan but I'm starting to think it would be nice to see her finally win Worlds as I'm getting rather tired of seeing her pouting on the podium.
