Disappointing (to me) start list for the women's USCX race at Falmouth. No Holmgrens, no Honsinger. Another Rochette coronation, surely.

I was surprised by that as well. And indeed Rochette grabbed the win by 20 seconds.

Yes. A bit disappointing especially as Honsinger said she would have a more domestic based calendar this year. I wonder how much control Lidl Trek have over the Holmgren's calendar already and whether that has anything to do with it.

In the men's race Van Kempen and Van den Ham were on the podium. An American and a Canadian :)
Good battle for spots 2-4 in the men's race. And even without the Holmgrens, the combined top 5s of the two elite races featured no fewer than 6 Canadians out of 10 spots. On the men's side it seems due to so many of the better American crossers devoting more time to gravel (being compelled by sponsors to do so), but on the women's side the Canadian riders are simply stronger overall.

The Canadians seem to have a bunch of promising riders at the moment across a few disciplines.......
She does it every time though. Right now she just acts as a pacemaker for the favourites.

He won the junior race.

I don't understand Marie Schreiber's tactic of starting super fast and then blowing up halfway through the first lap. Every race.
Recent article on WF where she says she was always bad at starts and specifically trained to improve them.
I thought a new season she would hang on longer than she has. Wait and see how season goes I guess.
Although she has been suffering with an elbow injury.
Says her first big target is the euro u23.

She might get a podium, but not sure i see her beating Backstedt.

The results in the end haven't been exactly surprising, but how close the top 10 and even top 15 of these first few races has ben really interesting. It almost makes one not want to have the likes of WvA and MvdP come back.

Also a real variety of nations in the top 10 now with Orts, Kuhn, Mason adding to van der Haar, Ronhaar and Nieuwenhuis as non Belgian riders.

She should share her “training for starts” program with Clara Honsinger, who needs that more than anything.
