He looked pretty good today, a few errors and got submarined by Nys there at the end. I thought I saw Nys maybe apologize after the finish but maybe I’m projecting…

Wouts blaming a fan got in his way, even though tv footage doesnt show anything conclusive and it for all the world look like he just slid out into the fence in one of those if the fence isnt there your heading towards the beer tent cornernings.

but there I saw MVP one time he remounted next to the fence it looked like he was about to kick a photographer in the head

You can actually see the man that made Van Aert crash when you zoom in and play the images a bit slower. Thibau had nothing to do with it. Besides fighting for the best line into the corner, which he had every right to.

Either way, Nys is growing back into stellar form. And Wout's comeback was more than satisfying. Looking forward to Dendermonde. Sad he doesn't race the a championship.

it was funny listening to Helen on comms kind of big her up saying that one part of a corner on the course really suited her style of riding, and Im thinking ok but its 4km course you need to be good at more than one corner to do well in Cyclocross.

but if she peaks for nationals, and her main rivals teams decide that its not important for the likes of Zoe, Imogen or Cat to race it, she could easily be champion again as the national series is barely at club league level these days.
I think we thought that in 2020 & 2022, and she was beaten by a MTB-er (now a Enduro/Downhiller) She only finished 4 secs in front of Maclean-Howell in Gavere.......it's not impossible for the latter to beat her.

In a few years the Cat vs Wolff vs Zoe should be a good battle if they all turn up! But the British nationals isn’t exactly my watching highlight of the year. The Dutch womens on the other hand is always good fun.

yep Gavere was her first top 15 finish in over a year. not sure what happened to her really except she kind of peaked as a junior and hasnt got any better since, I dont think she's had any major injuries that have kept her out of things, tbh I thought she'd quit the sport as clearly her results dont end up with contracts.

I like Helen Wyman, but sometimes her commentary makes it seem like cyclocross is some kind of rocket science when for instance Anna Kay's problem (as far as she has one) is pretty easy to see: she's tiny. Parts of the course where it doesn't hurt to be tiny suit her. Parts of the course where you need a big engine don't.

Thibau is so up and down in CX while he is just consistently good on the road, very weird. He is a very good speaker though. Once he starts winning races that gather just a little more publicity and attention than Hungary and Poland, he will be a chouchou.
Isn't he already a chouchou? In Belgium at least. Famous pretty much since he was born.

Exactly - she simply seems to lack the raw wattage to compete at the very top. Technically she’s very good, particularly in muddy conditions, and she often starts well. But she just can’t compete with the power of the very top riders.

I think she has been ill and/or injured earlier this year though? So she does seem to have been operating 5-10 spots below her usual level this year… hopefully we’ll see her in or around the top 10 more often for the rest of this season…

thats the problem theyve all got to turn up to compete against each other to make it interesting, and the reality nowadays is I think only 1 of that trio is likely to be there.

there was that bit where Cant hit a bump by the fence when in the lead and Kay passed her to take the lead by a good few bike lengths and I thought oh, ok looking good for a result here then, Eurosport went to a break, we came back (I might well have made a coffee too in the break) but next time I saw pictures from the race Cant was back leading and Kay was back in the chasing group, and I was like wth happened there, she looked comfortably ahead, at least on par with Cants pace, but she not only lost the advantage she had, and been overtaken by Cant, shed been spat out the back to the next group and she never really threatened to break out of that group again and was certainly the slowest of that group by the end.

I don’t think that’s true, and the continued excellence of guys like Eli Iserbyt and Lars van der Haar suggests as much.
Same goes for the women. Lucinda Brand only started becoming really good once she mastered the technique, before that she was fairly limited.

Today's course would have been good for Pieterse. Lots of intervals, lots of technical sections.

@theyoungest, if you watch the racers closely in the races, Fem, Brand, Vas, Zoe, Voss, all have better seated power than Puck. The racer that throws her bike around like Puck to generate power, Ceylin, finished after those racers. There are courses for horses and unfortunately Puck doesn't have the seated power of the top 5 finishers today.

Puck has won on this course before, when it wasn't as slippery so on paper it should have suited her more today.

Alvarado just wasn't on a good day, not that she would have won otherwise but this isn't a fair result, I think.
