+1. As usual with LA, the process is like clockwork and there's not a damn thing you whiners can do about, except of course, whine.

I agree in principle, but I don't think it will work like it has in days past (within the minds of fans). Back during his TdF run, folks bought into the hype. This year, it seems that cycling fans see it for what it is--marketing gimmick/shtick. From your perspective it comes off as whining, from mine it is just calling a spade, a spade.

In any event, I think there is a considerable downside for him if he underperforms his own hype. Considerable. We'll have to wait until July for that to come to fruition.

Well, honestly, I don't think you can fault Lance here. He's doing the rational thing. It's a business. Everyone's making money, so why shouldn't he get his?

I've criticized the guy for plenty of things, but being a rational, profit-maximizing businessman isn't one of them.

I hope there is downside for underperformance, but probably not nearly the upside if he outperforms. So he is playing with house money, imo. He loses, and the hit is what? Shack dumps him? Big effing deal! (And we get to trash him, but I had no plans to do otherwise, regardless.:D) Yeah, it will have some downside, but nothing compared to his upside.

Besides, the sycophant media and adoring fans feed that ego. That's like its own payment in itself.

Downside? What's the downside? Because I certainly don't see one. The guy may be a douche, but he's not stupid.

I'm talking about the downside of increased exposure. The more people who are watching, the more who will witness his underperformance/smack down. That may (not definite) hurt his legacy and ultimately deflate the aura surrounding him. Obviously it could have the effect of endearing him to others (feel bad about defeat). I'm not predicating that either will necessarily happen, just noting that there is a risk that he will over-hype this to the point that his failure to deliver will have lasting (negative) effects. Just one man's opinion.

Depends on what he values more, but I see your point.

Blowing off the Giro
For home town adulation
A fatal mistake.:p

There was WAY more adulation at the Giro last year than at the AToC, didn't you see the crowds last year at the Giro? The monies the Giro org paid for his appearance were well worth it! He races AToC pro bono.

You only like acting when it's someone pretending to be clean and honest, not the opposite, right?

Sorry my 9 year old hijacked me into watching that batman flick. We had to leave as Heaths performance was way to disturbing for my son and I.

Everytime I see his face Joker or non joker I am reminded of the degraded dementia of Heath in that role.

Excellent actor though coulda been one of the best if Heath hadn't of chosen to die in a SoHo apartment leaving behind a beautiful little daughter.

What a tragic character.

Guess you were to drunk to remember the Joker. Heath morphed into that character in real life and left a little girl without her father in real life. Do you think the man Heath Ledger soul-kissed in brokeback mountain remembered the gay foreplay or was he to drunk to remember also.

ummmm....have you been over to the obama thread lately? if not, then brace yourself.

I like to stir the pot, and that is being very modest.

To stir a pot, you have to have something of substance to stir with, you are a bit short in that department, but keep trying!

Ok let's stay on topic here. It's the radioshack Giro thread, not the Heath Ledger-is-a-really-good-actor-too-spooky-for-me-thread. Feel free to discuss it by opening a new thread.

Hey ravens what's up with the Lance a$$ kissing homophobe who is commenting on your avatar?

Now, Hugh, I know that you know where I stand. But this ain't the place for it. One of the reasons I get so disgusted with lefty cyclists is that when I ride with them they can't shut up about politics. Truly classless.

Let's treat the non-politics threads with some measure of respect by keeping politics out.

2-) May is time off for him, since he suffers from season allergies.

May is time off??

He just took seven months off....August to February

And now he is going to take May off because of "allergies'?

What is he "allergic" to?

Greg LeMond, the person Alberto is trying to tie this year as a 3-time-winner of the Tour de France suffered from allergies. Greg raced in May LOL

The reason I get disgusted with right winged dittohead cyclists is that they are douchebags regardless of the topic at hand...but I am glad I won't have to hear about the possibility of The Uniballer winning every stage regardless of profile this year. Good choice by them not to come. The race will be much more fun to watch.

I was not attempting to bring politics in but merely to point out in a sarcastic way that Flicker had chosen that moment to go stark raving loony.
Giro will probably still be the best race of the year with or without Radio Shack.

It's a forum. It happens. What the devil was this thread about anyways....
