It's true. Contador failed because he finished 1:12 down or whatever.

Lance didn't fail because he finished 5:05 down. That means he wasn't really trying. He was just getting in some racing miles....but not actually "racing".

Or something.

Now you're starting to get it!

Admittedly, the genius that is Bruyneel takes some time to fully understand, but if you work hard you too can slowly appreciate the sheer brilliance of it.

Either that, or you realize it's all complete and utter bullshit.

Riding up Cat 1 climbs at a slower speed is better for fitness.

FatStrong needed to stay in the "fat burning" zone.

Its been scientifically proven that riding races at a slower pace means you will ride faster than every other rider exactly 14 weeks later.

He won't finish Flanders. Mark my words. I will post naked photos of myself and then never post again if he finishes.... which he won't. There is no way you can finish Flanders in the mud when you haven't trained. Period. EoS.

I've also heard some intel about his condition which may mean he won't even start.

Anyway we could get the "never post again" WITHOUT the naked pictures if he finishes?

I'm not sure you're wrong... but I would be nowhere near confident enough to make that kind of statement.

Looks like I'll be cheering for Tex to finish.

I'm all man.

He won't finish. Have you ever ridden 262km on cobbles and in the mud? He won't finish.

I completely agree, I just don't want to see your, uh, bacon.

From what I've seen, he's not going to have the kind of form needed to be anywhere close to the front when selections happen.

Dear Radio Shack Powerhouse:
Here's an example of how teams that care behave.

"With the Giro d'Italia taking place at the same time we had to plan the roster carefully,” said team owner Bob Stapleton. “But we have the depth in the team and two of the fastest sprinters in the world and can send strong line-ups to both of these great events."

The team is registered in the US and one of its main backers, Columbia, is based there. HTC is a Taiwan operation but the US market is very important for it. While the Giro d’Italia is rich in history and is regarded as one of the three biggest stage races in the world, the Amgen Tour of California has rapidly attracted prestige and will this year feature what is probably its best-ever lineup.

Still I can imagine why some teams would prefer to let their Tour riders do California instead of the Giro. It seems a more relaxed approach, and with increased interest and a field with a higher profile than previous years, it's becoming a good alternative.

Is Radioshack present in Romandie? That would be a good moment for some of the riders to show themselves to the European audience, as they wouldn't need to save themselves as much as some Giro teams.

Those quotes are actually from an article about HTC Columbia sending Cavendish and Rogers to California this year. Rogers finished third last year and should be much stronger now that the race is held in May. Cav will go there for stage wins. The decision is an either/or as to which race riders will do, But Columbia won't stack the deck by also sending Greipel and the strongest GC guys at the expense of the Giro. They'll send strong squads to both, and I'm sure they'll be successful for both. And American viewers will see their sponsor names on camera and in photos for 21 days.

Yes, I understood, but my point was that I could see why Radioshack would send Kloeden, Leipheimer and Armstrong to California and offer the Giro organisers a more mediocre team. From the point of view of what makes a good race, I prefer Columbia's choices.

Not that RS were ever going to get an invite to the Giro. They sent RCS a pre-emptive FU to minimize the damage of the FU from RCS.

If Tex and RS are still around next year, they won't ride the 2011 Giro either.

I think you nailed it. Zomegan won't soon forget that he paid Armstrong 1 million bucks to come criticize his race.

I loved the comments Zomegan made about Armstrong. It was a heart-felt rant that was very biting in it's content, but I'm glad he got burned.

That's what you get when you leave the Italian National Champion home because of Armstrong. Anyone who thinks Armstrong had nothing to do with that decision is fooling themselves.

And on top of that Armstrong decides to boycott the Italian media after Zomegans' comments. The only reason he was there was to talk to the media. Lord knows he wasn't there to animate the race.

The whole thing was a farce, and I'm glad it blew up in Zomegans' face. That's what you get for being an unrepentant (w)hore.

Next time he should stand up for the sport of cycling instead of kowtowing to this bloated, washed-up pimp.

Just because the Giro has prestige does not give it the right to disrespect the riders. Or worse yet - put the riders into dangerous situations!

Lance and the Astana Team stood up for the riders last year. Lance and the RadioShack Team asked (in an advance letter) that conditions be improved this year too. So what does the Giro organization do? Ban RadioShack - nice.
Hopefully, other riders will rise up at the Giro this year...

BTW, the Giro should look to the Tour of California for a model of great organization and prestige.

Old unretired Lance whining about course conditions reminds me of those old geezers who won't drive faster than 25mph because they are afraid and see danger everywhere on the road. It just makes Lance look old and weak. Maybe he will pull out of some of these northen classics to avoid the cobbles - can't rattle the old bones like that, might make the arthritis flare up or something.

most of the posters responding to polish/flicker and their sockpoppets appear knowledgeable and intelligent.

it is beyond me, WHY they can't see he is baiting them just one half of one notch above the level of bpc's stupidity.

ignore the stupidity, and he'll start posting responsibly b/c it's obvious a knowledgeable and long-time fan is behind the cheap baits.

It is interesting that Polish's post count jumps whenever the latest version of BPC is banned.
